As already mentioned by TypeRatedB767 on the PIA and Jet2 threads, I am saddened to learn that both KLM and PIA are going to be operating on Christmas Day this year. It's such a shame that the airport can't shut down at least one day a year.

The majority of people of whatever faith generally see Christmas Day as a 'day off' and a time when they can unwind and relax. I know there's a number of professions such as policing, nursing and the fire service which have to work Christmas but up until only a few years ago flights didn't operate on Christmas Day any where in the UK. It's sad that commercial powers are leaning towards every day becoming the same as the next.

Last year, LBA was one of the few airports that was closed judging by the Ceefax airport arrivals pages. Prior to the opening of DSA, LBA had started opening on Dec 25 for what was usually a single Thomson flight, but of course recently that dubious honour went to DSA instead. It does seem silly, purely from an efficiency point of view that the entire airport has to open to deal with just a couple of flights, but I don't think it would go down too well with PIA if LBA was to 'impose' Christmas on them by declining to allow them to land at the airport. KLM are obviously there mainly to provide connecting flights from around the world, and if they are operating, then so should KLM, otherwise passengers who have flown back for the Christmas period are stuck in Amsterdam hotels over Christmas rather than getting home on the big day.

Depends on your views. I'm rather hoping I will be working Christmas Day
why more money 'cos no one wants to work that day?

im glad im not working..xmas is a time to be with family and friends

That's exactly my point with many people working shifts these days, it's meant to be the one day a year when you can spend time with your family and friends without juggling with shift patterns. Nuff said, I'm off.... :whiteflag:

Dried plum reports a press conference at LBIA today to announce the arrival of a new high profile airline for the airport. Any substance to this rumor or just a load of old tosh?

They also announced this on Pulse radio news bulletin at 7am this morning, so if it's on the Pulse it must be true!!

Not seen or heard anything yet, but EasyJet have this morning announced their trading update, so maybe they will be announcing routes from LBIA as part of this.

I haven't seen it in writing yet but I've heard that the airport will be staying 24H through the winter. I hope this is correct as it will allow LBA to offer itself as a diversion airport once more.

I'm glad we gained then in the order that we got them too. Imagine the possition the airport would be in now had Bmibaby come to Leeds first. :plums:

Am I correct in thinking that we now have an extra 25 flights (50 movements) per week over last winter? There's the 15 extra Ryanair flights, 5 KLM flights and 5 with Easyjet? That's a sizable increase if that's right.

I am glad that LBA is going from strength to strength and still attracting airlines. Just wish they would get on and start the terminal development. I flew from LBA to lanzarote last month and the terminal was very very congested.

There's a documentary on Channel5 this Thursday called "The Worlds Most Extreme Airports." I wonder if Leeds will get a mention:).

I've seen that program before and those airports make Leeds look like a 'walk in the park' in comparison.

I think there will be 42 Ryanair departures per week this winter. Last winter I believe the number was 19, so an increase of 23 per week.

I wasn't aware KLM were expanding in the winter.

Jet2 have a few extras going on, such as Rome will be operating this winter. Maderia starts of course from Feb and I think TFS will operate at 3 weekly for most of the winter but was only 2 weekly most of last year.

IOM will be down to 1 x daily from 2 during the week, so that is -5.

Not sure where the airport is with the charters

Maybe White Heather knows the answer to this question.
How much profit have Bridgepoint collected since they took over? Assuming they have made a profit.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
