Cash is king, a printed balance sheet showing millions of asset value, just worthless paper.
I can remember in the 2008 financial crash having my annual bank meeting, been shown a figure of the amount this bank director had to reduce his overdraft book, basically telling me I would be lucky to keep my facilities.
Thankfully for LBA, airports likely to be nationalised, the railways today have basically become state entities, others will come under the state net.
The rules are changing, running airports on the same basis as previous may not be possible or desirable

was thinking the same, if anything I know its grim at the moment but this virus in a strange sort of way might be the best thing to happen to LBA.

Crikey not good! once this is over it will take years to get pax figures back to normal, I bet LBA will handle about 1.5 to 2m this year?

At least Leeds has flights next week, many airports around the UK don't and no doubt Leeds will recover with that recovery no doubt led by Jet2. Sadly i fear many other UK airports won't recover from the effects of this virus.

When you see today's world map of air pollution levels and compare it to 3 months ago, a huge change for the good, especially in China.
It's thought already 100000 deaths have been delayed due to air pollution and rising a reason to cheer.
The University of Leeds study showing that 15% of U.K. residents make 70% of flights, shows those of us making a number per year, should maybe buy a permit from a non flyer.
As every business uses Zoom or other video conference sites, business travel could take a huge hit.
Many questions will be asked of the aviation industry in the future, if the government has to take control of airports, as they have done with all rail companies, a look at landing charges, possible cartels etc

I do know Humberside keeps its daily Eastern service to Aberdeen and it seems KLM city Hopper are running a very limited service to Amsterdam.

DSA has Budapest & Cluj Napoja arrivals tonight. All Poland & Latvia Wizz are cancelled, but it seems Rumanian and Hungary flights are operating normally at present.

Here we go again. Didn't you say you had 5 up and coming flights booked? How are your airline shares performing during this crisis? I guess your gas guzzling road haulage business wont be doing very well at the moment? At least the emissions from the road haulage businesses will be greatly reduced during this time. Something else the government will need to address to get on top of emissions.

I am going to set myself a rule during this crisis. Whilst in general I am quite (not totally) tolerant to others views, there is no doubt that tensions are going to run a little higher than normal. That means tolerance levels will be upped regardless of someone's views and opinions. We are definitely all in this together, not just from social distancing, but how we want the world to recover, especially the aviation industry. We and LBA will bounce back so let's stay positive, obey the rules and encourage others to the same. TOGETHER WE WILL BEAT THIS. Nothing less than together is good enough

Airports may have to close temporarily after the government ruled out a comprehensive state bailout for the aviation industry, ministers were told today.
Rishi Sunak, the chancellor, wrote to the airlines and airports this afternoon, warning that there would be no sector-wide rescue to prevent companies going out of business because of coronavirus.
In a letter seen by The Times, Mr Sunak insisted that the aviation industry was “vital” to the nation’s economic recovery and to rescue Britons stuck overseas. However, he said that further taxpayer support for the sector would only be possible once they had “exhausted other options” including raising money from shareholders, investors and banks.

He admits its vital to the national economic recovery yet won't allow a bail out. Brilliant. Norwegian Government are bailing out Norwegian yet he won't allow other, profitable, airlines to be bailed out/given some assurance by the government. He even admits they are vital to the national economic recovery. I have lost quite a bit of respect for him now.
easyJet should not of give away the money it did the share holders, and BA should be told where to go as they are moaning about the fact it is survival of the fittest. BA are a national disgrace not a national airline. Banks don't like it they need to be reminded that we, the people, bailed them out. Some banks in the financial crash should of not been bailed out. They should of been allowed to fail. But thats a different story for another day.

Many are deserving....Virgin though....hmmm...what is Branson's tax status in the UK? I'm guessing caution about these payouts relate to Virgin too.
What he`s actually saying is that the Government will only act as the lender of last resort, not the first. He`s told them, quite rightly, to seek assistance from their funders and shareholders and only when all avenues have been exhausted will the government step in. I think that is sensible and it throws down the gauntlet to people like Walsh and Branson not to mention Easyjet who paid out £170m in dividends before holding out the begging bowl.
As to airports, sorry but many on here will not like this, but there is a thought stream and most likely in Government too, that there are too many airports in the UK, as it is. Some will inevitably go to the wall. The Dept of Transport will already have a list.

I've seen that argument put out before that the country only really needs Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, a Scottish central belt airport, Aberdeen, Inverness, Belfast and Newquay

That’s an argument that insults every air traveller East of the Pennines. It’s not like we’ve got a great public transport service to get us to Manchester Birmingham or even Newcastle, so we’ll all be driving our electric cars there by the sound of it.

Flybe may also make a legal challenge if the government allowed them to go under but helps others out.
