What surprised me was how well LBA are doing against the likes of EMA and LPL who I always saw as having bigger passenger throughput than LBA

Well if they keep it up, LBA might get promoted from 14th biggest UK airport to 13th or 12th, even before the terminal extension.

The Government have today revealed their 10 point aviation plan. Well worth a read, but when doing so, remember what this same Government did with regard to LBAs new sustainable terminal. Perhaps Grant Shapps needs to compare notes with Michael Gove, as frankly they failed with their plan as far as LBA is concerned before they even published it!

Great plug for LBA on the Pulse this am - Danny Mylo's mate travelled from LBA on Saturday and it was mentioned that his mate found it a breeze and had no massive queues so they were quite complimentary about LBA compared with other airports.

daughter/hubby and 2 kids found just the opposite yesterday (sunday) joined the long queue outside
at 06.00 and got through security at 08.35 for jet2 09.00 palma,not a happy bunny.

At least they are going on holiday and have that to look forward to. Difficult times I know, but we either put up with the queues this year until they get the staff back and trained, or we dont go abroad. Simple choice. Personally I would happily queue a few hours for 2 weeks in Spain.

It's not a great situation and I have some sympathy but airports and airlines must have had a good idea so far as forward bookings go to prepare. On the otherhand passengers have known what the situation is for sometime now and we know there are several airports reporting the same problems.

Over the last few weeks I've read several newspaper articles quoting passengers saying they'll never flying from one airport or another ever again... but they will.

At least they got to go on holiday unlike thousands of EasyJet customers who have had their flights cancelled at the last minute. Again our local airline Jet2 is coming up trumps and putting on all flights and not letting families down.

The only way they could have prepared was to recruit staff, get Home Office approval, train them and then tell them to go home and wait for restrictions to be lifted. That would mean paying them a salary to do nothing until the passengers returned giving them a job to do. As the boss of BHX pointed out last week, they tried to recruit early but got few if any takers as they couldn't say when the staff would actually start work. In the end the Government gave airports 3 days notice that restrictions that had been crippling the industry were being lifted. Only then could airports start meaningful and successful recruitment, but as he also pointed out, after the conclusion of the recruitment process, which itself would take at least a month, it takes 12 weeks to secure approval and train the staff, or 3 months near enough. Hence most airports in the UK found very quickly that the passengers were back but the staff needed within the airport take months to recruit and train. The Government never gave airports a chance.

Recruitment is a problem across the whole industry, not just at airports. And I am speaking from experience there. Still a long long way to before this recovers fully. And now we have Monkey Pox - on that - “Now I’m a Believer” haha

Plenty of MAN, TUI and LGW bashing today - Jet2 are doing a sterling job at recovering and keeping LBA passengers moving - one thing for certain if we had more TUI then I'm sure LBA would have faced the axe - in this article in the Telepgraph the 'friendly low fares caption behind the TUI aircraft is a little unfortunate!

MAN & TUI have been taking a bettering today.. atleast jet2 are keeping pax moving..

Apparently there is to be 6 TUI flights per day cancelled at MAN so the company can cope. It really must be awful for the pax esp if say its your typical family that have been saving up and looking forwards to a holiday esp after the plandemic.
