The YP / YEP ran an article yesterday (helpful for once) with LBA's side. LBA explained they now have enough security staff but can't get them airside because of passes but each week it is improving. I'll try dig the article out but it was a balanced and fair response to the industry problems. More importantly I've only seen the odd bit of social media saying LBA queues are about an hour which is nothing compared with other airports so I'm hoping all our Yorkshire friends are getting away on their holidays!

I'm not even going to enter into the debate Grant Shapps has started this morning!
Just got back from Lanzarote after 4 weeks on the island with family.
I reported on a terrific experience on our outward journey with Jet2, which was a total breeze from start to finish and having returned this afternoon I can say it was generally a dream return trip.
Through Arrecife Airport - Check in -Security inside 10 minutes.
Flight delayed from LBIA meant our 1130 dep was 1200/take off 1210. Arrived back at 1550.
Through Immigration, collected luggage and in the taxi within 35 minutes.
Not all the stories at Airports are horror stories.

My son and family were due to fly out from Manchester to Cyprus today and got a message to say their holiday had been cancelled just before they set off to the airport. They’ve now booked a last minute holiday to Turkey next week with Jet2 from LBA. TUI and Manchester’s loss is Jet2’s and LBA’s gain.

My friend was due to fly from Manchester to Tenerife tomorrow. But they received the following email this morning from TUI.

Now they're rebooked to fly with Ryanair from LBA.

Not LBA related directly but Wizz will close the Doncaster base from the 10th of June according to a source on Twitter. Never nice to see an airport loose services, even if they are a neighbour, but it’s only good news for LBA!
If that's true, presumably it relates to the Wizz UK part of Wizz only and they will continue to have flights coming in using foreign based aircraft. Whatever, it's not good and adds to a long list if carriers that have gone for DSA and then left.

On the Flybe thread it mentions STS are looking for engineers with A320 experience. Presumably just a coincidence.

Might cause some friction with Ryanair.

Incidentally, its not the same source that mooted the reintroduction of Pakistan flights is it?

Lots of posts on Spanish Holiday Facebook pages complaining that they’ve had their flights cancelled a short notice With Wizz at DSA.

Endless airlines have started services from DSA rather than LBA all of which seem to fail.
LBA need to be quick here and try get wizz onboard, the airline have their west of england base been LPL so ideally an east of england base with large catchment area namely LBA would be ideal. Also to note many wizz flights into DSA generally arrive during the evening hrs so this buisness plan would work well at LBA with its not fit for purpose 1960s terminal when the airport is quieter.

What, even if it means paying them a subsidy?

I was surprised to see how many Tui flights there are from DSA. Wouldn't be surprised if DSA haven't had an assurance from Tui that they will take up the slack.

TUI and Wizz are different types of airlines and TUI recently expanded at the airport adding a 4th based aircraft and long haul routes.

Wizz Air easten european services will continue to operate. The base at DSA is Wizz UK which was due to operate beach routes, eg: Lanzarote, Malaga, Alicante, Fuerteventura, Larnaca, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife, Dalaman, Faro.
Yes, thats why I was thinking they might step in to replace Wizz. You would think DSA had a plan in place.

It's clear from the news article that the airport are blaming Wizz and claiming to not know this was coming, so it's highly unlikely that they have assurances from TUi about taking up the slack. Meanwhile Wizz are clearly blaming DSA management and effectively accusing them of failing to meet the terms if their contract. All in all, it doesn't look as though their commercial relationship is a good one which is surprising given how many years Wizz have operated there. I know that this is Wizz UK, not the European original, but even so, this looks like a serious breakdown.

I simply cant imagine that DSA weren't aware this was coming. They may not have been aware of the timing but looks as you say this could have been building for some time.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
