Galaxy, I was not talking about your footage and I am not blaming you although it may be used to make some kind of a point. These journos pretend to be nice and innocent to put you on their side without you knowing their true motives.
It's the whole programme that we should worry about. LBA has been well and truly stuffed by YTV,BBC and Look North with documentaries like this. The Alan Wicker one was the first as Heather also remembers well. There may have been 2 others, I am not sure now. But I was listenting to ATC one day when the TV crews were at LBA. ATC were telling flight deck crew to smile as they were taking off. All good fun until the programme was shown. The airport was well and truly shafted and many peoples opinions are formed on such rubbish. I just hope this one is different.

Well I truly hope that this will be used in a fair and even handed way, what I said in the interview was fair, and the program makers were very aware of ethics, during filming they talked about the 'Queengate' scandal, where footage was edited to misrepresent the Queen, and that since then there had been a lot of tightening up on such bad practices.

The production company 'Mentorn' are making a series for Channel 5 called 'World's Greatest', as far as I know the first episode will be screened in the first week of January and is called 'World's Greatest Take-offs and Landings', it is to be followed by 'World's Greatest Superhumans' and things like that.

Most of the footage used in the programmes is from amateurs like myself, and is taken from either YouTube or Vimeo, to enhance the program, interviews are also featured with the film-makers and various 'authorities' around the subject area. As far as I'm aware in the episode for take-offs and landings there is footage from around the world (I don't know exactly what though), my little bit is just one of many, and I imagine that the interview with me will be chopped down to a minute or less, as I personally am not really that important in the context of the program.

The researcher Emily, seemed quite young, and I really don't think she was putting on any kind of act when she contacted me (I also do not know if it was her who came on here, but I did tell her that their were lots of more knowledgeable people about LBA on this forum than myself, so maybe it was). I'm no fool (at least I hope not), in my real life I am in actual fact also a fully paid up member of the NUJ and registered Journalist (as well as several other things) and I did take her at her word when we spoke on the phone.

The crew that came to Yeadon and filmed (with a LCC permit) were a director and camerawoman, they had previously shown my footage to at least one airline pilot for his opinions. On the day they wanted me to tell the story of why I came to make the film in the first place, where I was, who I was with, what I remembered, who else was around while I was filming etc. The whole thing lasted about 45 minutes.

I was honest and I did give a fair and even handed assessment, so I just hope that it is edited and broadcast in that way. I guess we will all find out in the New Year.

[textarea]Leeds Bradford Airport fire lifeline placed on cuts hit-list

A fire station which is first to respond to incidents at Leeds Bradford International Airport is facing closure because of Government cuts.

Rawdon fire station and a part-time station at Otley will close with the loss of 23 jobs under proposals to West Yorkshire Fire Authority. A new station is planned at Menston to replace the two.

Rawdon turns out automatically in the event of any incident at the aiport to back up the airport’s own firefighters.

A fire service source at Rawdon said: “We are the first there. We attend whenever there is an alarm there for whatever reason - say if an under-carriage wheel does not come down.”

Rawdon is a full-time fire station staffed 24 hours a day.

I for one am very unhappy at the idea of closing the Rawdon and Otley fire stations. The idea of a brand new fire station at Menston may sound like a good idea as it's probably situated at the midway point between Otley and Rawdon so far as 'on the map' goes but in reality the drive time through Guiseley and Yeadon from Menston will be considerably greater, especially during rush hour and weekends.

Well the quickest way from Menston to the airport to avoid all the traffic would be to head up The Chevin area, but I can't see fire-engines risking the fast, full throttle rush up those country roads. The only other way would be to either head through Guiseley and Yeadon, as you said Aviador and head up that way.

The only alternative to that is the 15 minute drive at full speed heading over Otley, along the A660 as if your heading to Pool and up Harrogate Road...!!

The Rawdon Fire Station is best situated, even without the airport present because it is on the JCT600 roundabout and you can head to Bradford, Leeds, Ilkley and Harrogate!

It will almost definitely put lives at risk, as it is less than 5 minutes from the airport as well!!

Out of interest what contingency plans are in operation at LBA over the strike by immigration officers on Wednesday? Are any other groups of airport workers (security, baggage handlers, admin etc) on strike?

I wonder if the delay to PIA 776 was ue to the wind? The Birmingham flight was also held up even longer

The delay was due to the late arrival of crew having been stuck on the motorway as a result of a crash.

You are very welcome yorkguy.

We look forward to reading your contributions.

Hi all

Just a quick question I was driving past the airport today, past the terminal and parking stands. I noticed that there were 2 ryanairs parked up as normal but next to them there was a jet2 757 facing the other way towards the runway (tail to the road) just wondered why they would do that????

All aircraft have been placed into wind in the past few days (excluding today). This is when the wind reaches such a speed that they risk being blown/moved in the normal position. That particular 757 has not been in operation since.

Just had an email re the program that my footage of cross wind landings and take-offs will feature in, unfortunately the interview they did with me at Yeadon will no longer feature in the final edit. But the video footage will do.

The programme is due to broadcast on January 12th 2012 at 8pm on Channel 5.

Good one, Galaxy.

Pity about the interview. I hope you will still be credited with the footage.

Probably because you said you'd given a balanced interview. It might not provide the shock horror spin they're looking for? I just hope I don't miss the programme now. I'll bite my tongue now and hope for the best.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
