Not quite sure which thread to place this, but just read on BBC that Tracy Brabin is to run for a second term. I am putting it out to the universe that this frigga doesn’t get in again. Sat on the fence on everything airport related, shows no real support to anything, other than herself and bus lanes. So use your votes wisely folks - I sure as sh will not be placing an x next to her name!

You may be right Paully, but I sincerely hope not. The only thing she actively promotes is herself. With the the crap weather today, I bet she didn’t commute to the office on a bus full of damp and condensation, or via one of her bike lanes. She’s a sound bite politician who commits to nothing and really needs to go.

Looking at Co2 emissions. We are told that aircraft contribute 2% of Co2 into the atmosphere. 2% of what?. The percentage of Co2 in the atmosphere is 0.04%/ I'll leave you to make your own conclusions., but I make it 0.0008%

Well if they stopped spouting so much hot air, and turned off the computer that seems to record every movement 24/7, their carbon footprint would be considerably lower and the world would be a better place. They are about on a par with a wasp in my view. Pointless and a b****y nuisance.

If they that shall not be mentioned had any integrity they would be championing the airports efforts to reduce co2 by encouraging cleaner more modern aircraft to use the airport.

To be fair I totally agree it's a good letter in itself. However depending on which side of the fence you sit it will make your blood boil. And we all know what he is ultimately looking to achieve - good letter or not

He should have enough nous to understand the planning process and therefore understand the airport is seeking legal clarity on the subject. It really isn't rocket science and he should know this. I agree with his comments on the airport been more transparent. Our members have said the airport struggles when it comes to public relations. If you look throughout this forum at the airport news pages for each forum you can see the extent other airports go to with public relations. Arguably LBA is up there with the worst. I understand the difficulties they face but the airport needs to grab the bull by its horns and go on a public relations charm offensive.

I agree. When it comes to contentious issues (or non contentious issues turned into global disasters by they who shall not be named and their allies), the airport would do far better to openly explain the situation, the lack of clarity with the original planning consent, the much reduced noise emission of specific aircraft and how they can attract operators to use them here, and they may win some support , although there are some would argue the sun is actually the moon if it contradicted the airport. Nothing they say is accepted.

To a degree I have some sympathy with LBA though. They spent all day trying to explain the truth of the situation to the press after they had already printed the naysayers version , with little success. The press and lovely BBC simply referred back to our anti airport group who once again had the final say and the main headlines. Perhaps the airport should have called a press conference to explain type steps they were taking, before actually starting the process and thereby getting their say in first, rather than after the various councillors and they who shall not be named had had their say. Going second is a bit like trying to stop a tanker with a following current. Takes forever if it can be done at all.

The opposition though are clearly rattled about finding themselves in a situation whereby they are unable to interfere in the process.

On the street people don't care about QC quota counts 0.25 or whatever they are called they just count each aircraft as a movement. Even if the explanation is rubbished by the NIMBYs the airport should still explain that the newest generation of jet aircraft are just as quiet as the prop aircraft which are already exempt from flying throughout the night. At the end of the process to establish clarity the result may indeed lead to a new planning application to enable more flexibility anyway. I still believe the airport should seek to obtain a change of designated daytime hours bringing back day from 07:00 to 06:00 with no alteration of night quota because the majority of the so-called night movements are within this period anyway.
