I think the trouble is people use them for astronomy these days which indirectly means they are shining the lasers in the sky...

Most common sensed people who own one know not to point them at any form of aircraft...No doubt the people in question will be of the young variety with nothing better to do...

I don’t know if I should post this but seen that we are on the subject, it’s worth a mentioning the following.

There were up to 4 reported laser attacks last night involving inbound aircraft to Leeds/Bradford Airport. The worse reported incident involved a Jet2.com, Boeing 737-300 aircraft which was inbound from Belfast on the LS328 service. At the time off the incident the aircraft was on base leg for finals to runway 32 just passing over the Morley/Birstall area.

The Captain had to take over control of the aircraft as his co-pilot had suffered from a short blindness from a green laser which was shone directly at the starboard side of the aircraft. The pilots reported the incident to LBA, ATC who then reported the attack to the Police Helicopter whom was out and about in the area at the time.

The Jet2 pilots involved also said they would be reporting the incident in writing once on the ground.

That program my YouTube footage features in is on this Thursday at 20:00 on Channel 5, annoyingly the programme is no longer called 'World's Greatest Take-offs and Landings' it is now called 'World's Scariest Plane Landings', which will be the reason that my un-dramatic interview no longer features. Details here: http://www.plankpr.com/?p=2492

Please feel free to say I told you so.

I suppose there are various plus points to this program ....... ;)

1- its on Channel 5 - which nobody watches
2 - its on at the same time as Deadenders, Corrie and Emmerdale
3 - some parts of the country can't yet get Channel 5

... so I reckon that leaves about two dozen people in the country who might watch it...

But being serious for a moment I suppose we'll have to watch it to see what it stirs up but I suspect if it hadn't included LBA we wouldn't have been too interested in it - at least not comparitively

No doubt there will be the compulsory dig at the airport's 'mountain top' location "high in the peaks of the Pennines", thrown in for good measure.

The Guardian described LBA as "sat on top of a hill called the Chevin" before Christmas so I can't wait to see what this bunch of idiots come up with.

Galaxy

If you really wanted to stop them from showing your Youtube (which I suspect you don't as a budding film maker / journalist yourself ) you could contact them and say you only agreed to them showing the film on the basis on the programmes initial name.

I told you so! :s_laughat

The title of the programme is exactly what I envisaged. The problem is, this may be picked up by the tabloids with calls for dangerous airport to be closed etc. The fact that a gale was blowing will not be mentioned.I don't think the LBA management will be too impressed.

Aviador, I'm in Poland until Thursday evening, and I suspect in the small print of the media release that I signed there will be something that protects them from this happening. I definitely gave Mentorn permission to use it for Worlds Greatest Take-offs and Landings, but I'm sure they have covered their backs, and by the time I get back it will be too late to do anything about it.

But on that note, the program contains nothing that isn't already on YouTube or Vimeo, so it's not like it is showing an exclusive, I doubt the tabloids will pick it up Wawkrk as it is about 50 seconds footage from several years ago, and certainly not as dramatic as what has been on Calendar / Look North recently.

I'm not worried about the airport looking bad, it's not as if the cross-wind issue at LBA is a secret, at worse the footage shows some crabbing and a puff of smoke on landing. At best it shows some very skilled pilots, all of whom brought their aircraft in safely first time.

Well it's submitted now. I am kind of looking forward to watching it now and as you say it's not footage than most people haven't already seen before. The only worrying thing is it just gives the Anti airport lobby more ammunition to fire.

I totally forgot about it but thankfully set it on record.

Did anyone else realise the mistake made within the first 10mins? The Jetblue A320 292 flight, which had the front gear problem was described as a 737 by the narrator..?

Other than that found it a very good watch! Great footage as well Galaxy! :good:

The guy who ran out of fuel and ditched in the sea.... didn't it say he was rescued by a 'C130 Hercules rescue helicopter'??

Otherwise it could have been worse

I don't think the programme showed LBIA in a bad way, more of a challenging airport in windy conditions, and a slight go at the airfield construction team way back when for building the runway in the wrong direction
Bring back runway 01/28 and extend it :yahoo:
Well done Galaxy.
With regards to the comment about the pilot that landed in the sea it said that the C130 talked them down/how to land in the rough seas and the C130 was filming the incident and you can see the helicopter winch the pilot up!
Also the KLM at St Martin must have been well below the gildeslope, he nearly clipped the fence  and landed on the displaced threshold, I wonder if he had his wrist slapped? :s_crazy

Well this evenings Channel 5 programme didn't seem to do the airport any damage.

The Leeds/Bradford Airport's, Air France Concorde visit was voted 7th World's Scariest Plane Landing on the programme. You can see video below as it's already been uploaded to youtube.

I noticed the mistake with the C130 Hercules 'helicopter' that was pretty poor to be honest.

I counted 14 seconds of my own footage, and to be completely honest it looked more dramatic on TV than it does on YouTube!

Not so bad after all. Lots of incorrect information though.
I was surprised that the Air France Concorde was featured.I was an invited guest that day close to the runway. The captain clearly stated he was going to do a low pass then circle to land. The cross wind was 40kt's. I seem to remember a following Britannia flight diverted to MAN.
The pilot who said he didn't know why the wind at LBA is in the wrong direction is either an imposter, or he was being sarcastic. Even school kids know the prevailing wind is from the west.

The Pole said it all...bring back 10/28. Knock the Glenmeres down..handy emergency run off into the dam and millions of pounds to build an extension towards Bramhope. I think the reservoir on the top of the Haw would have to go though!! (Would still be a damn sight cheaper than HS2!!). More chance of Concorde landing again though!!

As far as I am aware, the Concorde footage was a very late addition, they found a snippet of it on YouTube (certainly not as much as was featured in the programme) after they had been to Leeds. I told them to contact Calendar News for the full story. I'm guessing this changed their editorial perspective and is possibly why my interview was not featured. However I'm also aware that they interviewed plane spotters at Liverpool and Manchester, and that never made the final edit either.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
