Re: Leeds Bradford Infrastructure & Developments

That might have been myself - or LS16 perhaps, but it does sound familiar. I am fairly sure that was confirmed at one of the Consultative Meetings in 2012.

Re: Leeds Bradford needs improvements

I wouldn't knock Check In Hall B despite the fact that it is getting a little bit worn around the edges after enduring Check In Hall A in May when jetting off to Crete with Monarch. The Monarch flight was brilliant but check in was a nightmare.

It was an unmitigated disaster as it is not fit for purpose when several flights (in larger aircraft) are checking in at the same time.

With B there is room for all the bodies and except when Jet2 are having computer/baggage problems it works very well indeed.

Re: Leeds Bradford needs improvements

hi there airforced
I agree with your comments on checking hall A & B jet2 run a very smooth check In operation in my view, how I wish the baggage reclaim was the size of jet2 check in.as for check in hall A, no thanks our last 3 Thompson flights have been out of Doncaster.
regards to all.

Even though Doncaster has limited flights, last year we flew with Thomson to Ibiza. Early departure sitting on the plane on time, captain comes on "good morning all, welcome aboard etc, etc, unfortunately if you look out your windows to the left another Thomson aircraft, they have your cases, we have theirs, not sure whether cases or passengers swap", cases in the end, 60 minutes late on arrival.
Car park for collection is also a nightmare, see yesterdays daily Mail had about another seven airports in u.k. that now charge like Leeds to drop off.

There is little doubt that most airports that are largely dependant on low cost airlines to survive, will introduce parking drop off charges, if they already haven't - and most of the larger regional airports already have. As I have pointed out before, Manchester may not charge for drop off, but it makes up for it with fairly hefty charges for picking passengers up, so in the end the charges are similar as at Leeds. It is something we will have to get used to - a penalty for more affordable air travel. I know which I would choose, and if I can fly to somewhere such as Lanzarote and back for £240 return, I am very happy to pay £2 to whoever drops me off or picks me up at the airport - especially if the longer term result is more investment in the terminal and yet more flights.

Of course, anyone who objects to paying the £2, always has the option of getting the bus. No prizes for guessing whether the bus fare is more than £2 - per person.

high all
just noticed air blue are to start Birmingham to Lahore via Islamabad twice weekly with airbus A340 equipment.

Good question. The type has never visited LBA before. Clearly there would be weight restrictions like other wide-bodied aircraft and the aircraft would struggle to turn on the 32 turning D but probably not too dissimilar from the Boeing 747.

Out of interest did anyone else today receive an email from Leeds/Bradford Airport regarding completing a survey about people’s flying habits and use of airports?

If not, click the following link http://www.effectiveresearchsurveys.com ... 1&vh=b12ed fill out the questions which should take 15 minutes or less to complete and you will be entered into a prize draw with the potential to win £200 in cash....

Yes I got one and filled it out although it took me nearly an hour! It kept going back to fill in questions already done many times and I went through it over and over again.
Maybe my computer but have'nt had that sort of problem before.

rmac: I had the same problems, repeated the same question over and over again at least I got to put my airports that I would like to see covered from LBA. Hopefully someone is going to analysis all our input.

One to watch out for as the Halifax Courier is reporting that the RAF's Red Arrows are due to do a flypast over the Eureka Children's Centre at 1710 today.

One would assume there will be en-route home to RAF Scampton from Blackpool Airport as they displayed there yesterday and makes you wonder how close they will route towards LBA afterwards?

As we know, the airport is constantly talking to airlines for new routes etc, I was just wondering what the process is about talking to them and how long it takes to negotiate, as we all know, Thomas Cook and Bmi regional sadly have left the airport, will the airport be straight back in talks with them? does the airport offer money to airlines for them to serve LBA, how does it all work?

Which? had a review of above captioned subject in this months edition. I looked at the detail on-line.
There were 15 airports in the 'small airports' category. Leeds came 12th behind Southend (1), Humberside (2) and Robin Hood (3)

Which? has a very good reputation for being an industry leader in reporting consumer issues so I have every faith that their survey was conducted properly.

Interestingly, their definition of a 'small' airport is less than 3m pax/annum, so will be in the 'Large' airport survey next year- that's going to be quite tough as a crticsim of quite a few of the smaller airports in the large category was lack of shopping opporunities, EMA and BRS got marked down badly for this.

That's a bit odd because retailers insist on various passenger thresholds being reached before they will even consider opening an airport store. I believe it's different for every type of retailer but for instance, you don't see electrical retailer Dixon's at airports with less than around 4 million passengers per year. East Midlands (4,100,791) and Bristol airport ( 6,013,520) are their smallest airports in passenger terms.

Some people moan because of a lack of shopping opportunities at airports whilst others (me included) whinge about airports becoming shopping centres and taking up too much space that would otherwise make the passenger transit experience a pleasanter one.

If I want to go shopping (perish the thought!) I'll go to a shopping centre, not to an airport.

I accept that airports need some retail space to bring in ancillary revenue but it has to be balanced and fairly limited in my view to items that people might reasonably want when they travel.

hi yokel
re shopping at airports
I agree with your thoughts on shopping at airports, lba is my local airport and I cant remember the last time we bought any thing other than a drink at lba.the so called duty free is a joke price wise the asda is cheaper, when will they learn.why should whisky be a lot cheaper in Malaga airport than lba??also full marks agp for setting up a small duty free in arrivals which is a lot cheaper than lba.
regards
sm1.

Spirits (abd tobacco) are cheaper in duty free than a supermarket, as long as you are flying utside the EU. In reality the so called duty free is actually no different from a high street store if you are flying within the EU. Alcohol prices are cheaper in Spain because national alcohol (excise) duty is less than in the UK, in the same way that our excise is way less than that in, say, Sweden.

As far as the Which? survey goes, it's quite clear that (unlike me/you) the travelling public want more shopping outlets- and its the general public that have to be appeased.

Note that if Leeds had done beter on shopping, they were still off the mark in other categories.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
