Welcome to the forum and thank you for joining and taking part!!!

As for your question....

The two runways you ask about are described as separate runways because they refer to the runway as different directions. Runway 14 is known as runway 14 because it is heading 140 degrees. The same applies to runway 32 which is heading 320 degrees.

Back in the early 80's the runway used to be known as 15/33 but because of magnetic changes the runway was reconfigured as 14/32 to make it more accurate for aircraft equipment.

On the back of your answer may I confirm that the runways will be labelled '32' at one side and '14' at the other?
I know this is the case with every runway because I've seen it, but I have come into land at LBA a number of times and I've never seen it!

thanks again.

If your approach is over leeds and the terminal is on your right when you land then you have landed on runway 32.

If your approach is over Countryside and the terminal is on your left when you land then you have landed on runway 14.

I'll also add your not really ever going to see the runway numbers from a passenger perspective as the a/c flys directly over them.

Hi All

Good news I've just got around to up loading the LBA Summer 2014 timetable which is produced by myself onto my website which can be found using the following link. http://www.lbaspotters.net/summer2014timetable.htm

The Summer schedule commences from Sunday, March 30th so you may notice that the winter ski flights do appear in it seen as they operate until after after Easter holidays whilst I've also included the Monarch charter to Orlando in April and Jet2 shopping flights to New York in April & October.

Please feel free to print off you own copy for personnel use. For info it works out a 23 pages if you do decide to print it..

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works so early lbaspotter but the RYR1832 on Saturday 5/4 has been altered to dep GRO at 1745 local arriving at LBA at 1910. Presumably the 1833 will be leaving 25 mins or so later. Don't know if that means a full schedule change or if it is a one off.

As you point out "Airforced" it looks like it's a last minute full season scheduled change to the Saturday Barcelona-Gerona timeings has been made by ryanair. I'll update it with the release off issue 2 few weeks time, Also on a plus side it's a good job I included a disclaimer, which covers airline last minute schedule changes and cancellations........

Don't worry lbaspotter nobody is going to haul you before a judge if some of your timings are a bit out!

We are all grateful for your efforts and for taking the time and trouble to post the results on here.

I moved up here a few years ago and was surprised to see that some aircraft fly as far west as Skipton before turning on finals for runway 14.

I live up in ripon and when out walking the dog on a clear night I can see the aircraft coming into LBA on aproach to runway 32 and 14

I was at the Yorkshire Dales icecream farm near Skipton last weekend and you could see aircraft turning onto the 14 glideslope. It's a great place to watch them while you're out with the family.

Announcing the Spring budget today George Osborne mentioned investment in regional airport routes and specifically cited Leeds Bradford amongst the likes of Liverpool e.c.t. so it will be interesting what this will entail exactly, if it will mount to anything at all.

Mr Osborne said, "...And because we want all parts of our country to see better links with the markets of the future we’re going to provide start-up support for new routes from regional airports, like Liverpool, Leeds or indeed Inverness."

I heard this too and my ears perked up but as soon as he had said he moved on to the next topic. I've searched the web as best I can but can't, as yet, find any reference to it. Has anyone got any ideas what he actually meant?

I have access to the budget and read through it today. There is reference to the provision of a £20m pot of money specifically to provide support for new aviation routes operating from regional airports. No specific airports are mentioned, so it must apply to all of them and no doubt it will be a case of first come first served and once the money is gone, it's gone. I am not sure from what date it becomes available, but if operators are dithering about whether to start up a route or not, it could just tip the scales.

Here's a an article published this morning detailing further information regarding the £20m Regional Air Connectivity Fund announced by the Chancellor in Yesterdays Budget Statement. It includes a statement from Tony Hallwood and looks like the airport is supported by Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership....

Leeds Bradford Airport set to take full advantage of Budget boost

A YORKSHIRE airport is confident it can take full advantage of the Budget boost to help attract new airlines and introduce more long-haul flights.

The Chancellor announced a £20m Regional Air Connectivity Fund to encourage airlines to start flying new routes from regional airports to increase connectivity and boost local economy in his Budget yesterday. The banding system for APD was tweaked by the Chancellor, too, so that all long-haul flights will now carry the same tax as a flight to the US - under the current system, the tax for flying 4,500 miles to Jamaica is £60 more than travelling 7,000 miles to Hawaii.

The Regional Air Connectivity Fund is predominantly for smaller regional airports which carry less than three million passengers a year, but for airports with between three million and five million passengers each year, they can still apply for the benefit but only for exceptional circumstances.

During 2013, Leeds Bradford International Airport racked up a record breaking number of passengers with 3.3m flying through and today, Tony Hallwood, development and marketing director at the airport, said it will be putting forward “ a very strong case” for the funding.

Humberside Airport and Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield both have less than a million passengers each year, so will benefit from the funding.

Tony Hallwood said: “Without a shadow of a doubt this is an important driving seat to attract longer haul carriers. We will be taking full advantage of this in discussions going forward.

“This announcement is great news for Leeds Bradford Airport and the rest of Yorkshire.

“The start-up fund will support route development and strategy and we will be talking to more airlines going forward. We will work with Yorkshire tourism partners, too.

“It gives us more chance to compete with European competitors."

In his Budget announcement yesterday, George Osborne said: "And because we want all parts of our country to see better links with the markets of the future we’re going to provide start-up support for new routes from regional airports, like Liverpool, Leeds or indeed Inverness."

Hallwood added: “New services will drive inward investment which will deliver new jobs. This is very encouraging. It is a shot in the arm for us.

“This is aviation on the front foot and we believe this is a really good starting point and are looking forward, but we will never be complacent.”

Hallwood said his team will now be reviewing the "finer details" before making further announcements.

Roger Marsh, chair of the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership, added:
“Connecting our businesses to their specialised markets is vital to maintain good growth and the £20m Regional Air Connectivity Fund, to support new routes from Leeds Bradford airport, will support the work we are already doing to enhance the international connectivity of the region.”

Jeff Pearey, lead director at property group JLL, said: “It was pleasing to hear the Chancellor announce that start-up funds will be made available to help launch new services from regional airports and that he specifically mentioned Leeds Bradford. This will help stimulate activity as well as making it easier for companies to export. Connecting our region with additional European cities, and indeed further afield, certainly helps to endorse Yorkshire’s “business sell” to the wider world as well as providing a great platform for tourists wishing visit.”

Thanks for that lbaspotter. I'm not sure how far £20m will go and as Hallwood implies the devil may be in the detail which he will quite rightly explore to see how much benefit LBA may be able to extract from it. However little that may eventually be, if it helps him to attract more business then it may prove beneficial in the long run. Thank you Boy George.

Why dont they just scrap or at least reduce the airport duty tax or whatever its called for regional airports. This will make it cheaper to travel from these airports and as a result will encourage other operators to the likes of LBA, Bristol and Newcastle. Too simple I suppose as it has to look as if the government is trying to help regional airports develop their business. Its a bit like the European Develpment Fund, we all put £10 in and when they give us £1 back to go spend on something to develop we are expected to be so grateful when we receive it. We even have to stick up a notice saying that this business was developed using money from this fund.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
