As we all know, Leeds and Yorkshire is a huge market for Manchester Airport and will be for many years unfortunately so it can only be expected that they would want the public in our great city / region to know what a fantastic product is on offer over the hill.

The only way Leeds will ever fight back is if someone digs deep and starts to put right all the wrongs that LBA is famous for. I’m not optimistic.

There was an interchange on cargo recently, relevant to the need for wide body operators to have a good cargo operation at LBA. I pointed out that LBA had no interest whatsoever in cargo.

I am attending a cargo presentation intended to promote the use of Robin Hood Airport tomorrow evening, arranged by Peel (possibly including a visit to see the Vulcan)
which is in stark contrast to the total lack of any commitment or promotion of LBA's cargo facilities by the airport owners.

I was told a Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner cargo carrier BinAir were turned away from operating into Leeds/Bradford recently as we don't have a the facilities to handle them, so they are now using Donny instead. Anyone able to confirm this is true?

I don't think the problem is to do with handling the aircraft in particular, I believe it is something more to do with safety. Manx2 used to operate the Metroliner into LBA and there were concerns back then regarding this type of aircraft. I think it's worth noting, the safety concern in question was regarding ground safety and not air or flight safety. I cannot confirm this is the reason for BinAir to be turned away from LBA if that has indeed happened.

The Metroliner does not have a safety record to be proud of, but despite BHX (my airport) not being a large one for cargo ops we can get loads of them at a time. :s_dunno

I have also been told to 'watch this space' with regard to LBA and Leeds United although Bradford City were not mentioned. I suspect that any deal with Leeds United would have been on hold as the owner hasn't been at home for some time!

Leeds Bradford Airport have just announced another partnership. Not Leeds Utd as expected but at least its local and they are well supported Leeds Rhino's RLFC instead.

The Rhinos join David Gornall, Leeds Bradford® Airport's commercial director at the launch

Super League leaders Leeds Rhinos have joined forces with Leeds Bradford® in a new partnership which will see the airport become the club's Official Airport.

The deal will see the airport offer Leeds Rhinos fans and their families exclusive offers, competitions and chances to win flights.

Leeds Rhinos stars Adam Cuthbertson and Liam Sutcliffe joined the club's Chief Executive Gary Hetherington to launch the new partnership ahead of the Rhinos kicking off the defence of the Challenge Cup this Saturday when they face Huddersfield Giants at Headingley Carnegie.

David Gornall, Leeds Bradford® Airport's commercial director, welcomed the partnership and said it will be a deal that will benefit both organisations as well as Rhinos fans. He commented, "There are numerous reasons why we think Rhinos supporters will like Leeds Bradford® Airport, such as our free unlimited superfast Wi-Fi, our luxury Yorkshire Premier Lounge, contemporary bars and restaurants, and convenient on-site parking."

Gary Hetherington, chief executive of Leeds Rhinos, said: "I know that Leeds Bradford® Airport are committed to creating an outstanding regional airport connecting Yorkshire to the world and we have seen in recent years how powerful sport can be to spread the word about our region. We are delighted to have agreed this partnership and look forward to seeing our links grow in the years ahead. It is pleasing to see two major brands in our region working together."

Rhinos star Liam Sutcliffe commented, "The whole team were at the airport recently for our trip to Perpignan to play Catalans Dragons and the brilliant service we received certainly helped kick start our day and helped us get the victory over in France. I am sure our fans will enjoy seeing the links with the Rhinos when they head off on their holidays from Leeds Bradford® this summer."

Well I am sure that once Adam Pearson has his feet under the desk at Elland Road, he will be getting a call from LBA, and LUFC will feature before too long.

Air bridge is broken again

What gives you that impression? As far as I'm aware, it's working fine. BA choose not to use it at the moment though.

jfy1999 - Both Stand 7 and 8 are still usable when air-bridges are down.

Really? :search:

BA are choosing not to use an air bridge? Surely this must be Leeds specific? I've never heard of them choosing not to use an air bridges when there's been one available.

BA are choosing to use Airbridge 7 at the moment. However, Airbridge 8 is still functional. I don't think BA will be on 7 all Summer, it should change back to 8 before long.

Speedairways,a Slovakian outfit are proposing up to three flights a day from Cardiff

Have a look at the Cardiff thread. This 'airline' is not what it appears.

It's nice to see LBA doing some community sponsorship. It's something I feel LBA hasn't done enough of over the years but I think they've sponsored this event for a couple of years or so now.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
