Hi new to the site so apologies if already answered but can someone tell me why airbridge at stand 8 isn't being used. Flew out with klm and we had to climb steps right next to the airbridge?

Hello Croggy and welcome aboard. I believe the air bridge on stand 8 is out of service at least until the end of the summer. I don't know what the problem is with the bridge but I do know that FMT (manufacturers) were over from Sweden earlier this year to perform an overhaul on both it and the bridge on stand 7. Incidentally the stand 7 bridge is a simpler design and is still serviceable. British Airways seem to use it whenever they drop in.

Hope this helps.

The terminal was heaving this morning with queues for the FRA check-in desks stretching right around the hall. Thankfully, the BA check-in desks were well staffed. Security was hugely efficient though with all the channels open. Big police presence both landside and airside - more than I've ever seen. Have access to the Yorkshire Lounge where the hot bacon rolls are superb. All in all, another excellent LBA experience

The new ExtraJet airline will cover Antwerp and Copenhagen. will use it regularly when it opens. It is specifically for business travellers with free parking, lounge, free meal and drinks as well as fast track check in and security

Re: Leeds Bradford General Thread

For me at least it is spot on and it reiterates the fact that no matter how you dress-up the terminal it will always be difficult to make it more user friendly. If we are to keep the terminal as opposed to building a new purpose built facility, removing the snake affect would give the airport a huge boost in popularity. I know the "circulation zone" as the airport calls it, was designed to get people to spend money in the retail outlets, I don't feel it was necessary really given the relatively small size of the terminal.

Above is an interesting link, doesnt put LBA in a good light.

In a recent survey of small airport in the UK LBA has come out next to bottom with only Aberdeen below us. DSA is voted second best in the UK, if ever investment is need these reports must tell airport management that passengers are not happy with the current facilities.

Ok, it's Sunday morning, time for a hypothetical question;

If Bridgepoint decided next week to put LBA on the market citing their reasons for doing so as being fed up of accusations of under investment at LBA, who, or which company, do we think might be candidates to take over LBA? I'm assuming MAG wouldn't due to competition and / or monopoly for being too close to Manchester so who else is there? Would we be looking at another 'Bridgepoint'??

United

Good news!! United have announced a daily LBA to Newark New York route using a 757. Arrives early morning depart morning arrive at 9pm.

I know the LBA marketing machine isn't great but I am sure even LBA wouldn't let possibly the largest announcement the airport is ever likely to make slip by unnoticed.

Nice to know the rumour mill is still at work though. It keeps us all entertained while so little else is happening here at Leeds.

Can't find any mention of this on any other major aviation website. I wonder what is the poster's source. I incline towards Aviador's view but it would be great to be proved wrong.

I'm not clear on the timings either. I can understand arriving early morning and departing in the morning. However, if we stretch morning to midday the seven-hour flight would still get into EWR at 1400 New York time (1900 hours UK time).

At the last LBA consultative meeting they stated that they were 'not looking for trans continental flights at this time'. That was a change in position if true and they have previously made it clear that they did want a New York service - but thought it was 'unlikely' within the next 3 years. I too would suspect this is a tongue in cheek post by Airplane. Perhaps the name is a clue. Spoof film, spoof post?

On a separate note, whilst enduring watching Leeds United contrive to dominate a match, gift 3 goals and consequently lose 3-0 at Middlesbrough, in one particularly bored moment I couldn't help but notice that electronic moving message boards all around the pitch were advertising 'Fly Leeds Bradford Airport'. Obviously linked to Boro being a LBA business partner, but nice to see LBA advertised on Sky Sports!

At least we have a States connection through Dublin and who knows what the future holds now Aer Lingus sold to IAG

Interesting however that if you go on the United Airlines website and put in Leeds, it does come up with LBA. Even though they don't fly here. It would be nice to think that it might be one for the future.

Hi Heather

It's because Delta Airlines is part of the Skyteam alliance meaning you can code share through to LBA with KLM via Amsterdam.

The services is far too unreliable this time of year as it was last. CAT 1 /2 aircraft scheduled to arrive between 0700-1000 really do have a fight on their hands unfortunately.

So far this week:

Monday Arrived 4:50 late
Tuesday Arrived 2:45 late
Wednesday Diverted

That’s a lot of ruined business trips, missed trans Atlantic connections etc and just adds to Leeds poor reputation.

jason: My daughter uses this route on a regular basis having swapped manchester- Shannon for LBA-Dublin then New york.
She has been doing the run on a regular basis for 5 years.
Asked her about LBA possible issues and advised she missed more manchester flights due to Accidents or bad weather on the M62, then any delays out of LBA. She is self employed and reckons pro rata lost more money out of Manchester then ever could occurr out of LBA. She reckons weather out of JFK has caused more long term disruptions to her schedule.
On Fridays and Saturdays she flies in to either, LHR, Madrid, Rome, Paris, all she feels have given her more issues then LBa in the last year.
She used to work with me in Milan, try getting a plane down in the Po valley for the next 5 months early morning. I remember we had 25 continious days of fog at Linate in the late 70's, thats what you call an issue, not a few possible days of fog.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
