I can confirm that at the last JCC meeting, LBA management confirmed that the airport is now fully equipped and 'ready to go' on the 777. They confirmed that they are waiting for PIA to indicate when the upgrade will happen and that one months notice will be given. I informed them about the 777 200's that PIA are leasing but got the impression they had already found that out (they didn't say one way or the other). What is clear is that the airport and handling companies have spent money getting ready for the 777, so it still appears to be on the cards - more a case of when, rather than 'if'.

Its great news for the airport and also for installing confidence in other carriers that operate
similar wide bodied equipment.

This could be a milestone in many ways.

My only concern here is whether there is a a guarantee for PIA that the loads will stack up.

Would this mean a reduction in weekly flights ?

I was told yesterday that PIA haven't changed their in flight meal for near on 8 years now. Chicken Biryani evidently.

Today's PIA has a around a 4 hour delay. Should be expected at around 2000 tonight.

You are not wrong bigman although they do offer western alternatives on their flights which do change from time to time. The business class meal varies as they get a choice of main meals and snacks. All passengers also get a continental breakfast before landing in ISB.

All the PIA meals for UK catered flights are made at a production facility in Bradford. They deliver various amounts fresh the day before departure to the alphaLSG units at LHR, BHX & MAN. It is then packed into the airlines carts and loaded onto the A/c. As the LBA alphaLSG unit is too small and doesn't have a segregated halal area the food is sent from Bradford to MAN and then back over to LBA packed up. The old used equipment removed from the I/B sector is then sent back the next day for washing and recycling. You may even spot the alphaLSG catering vehicles on the M62 every now and again!

Just seen an article on another website saying Air Blue to launch non stop flights from Manchester to Islamabad 4 times a week from Novermber 27th. Just hope this does not impact on PIA `s flights and the anticipated arrival of the B777. Any thoughts?
http://www.businesstraveller.com/news/a ... -islamabad

Air Blue already operate the route with a stop in Istanbul so hopefully this won't impact too heavily on our Islamabad PIA service/

That article is out of date. PIA have since denied categorically they are or have had any intention to terminate MAN-ISB.

Have the PIA arrival and departure times changed again or were today's just a one off, the arrival was scheduled 16:30 with departure at 19:00

Well spotted Concorde Lover, those are the new scheduled arrival and departure times. Two and a half hour turnaround is the PIA Boeing 777 turnaround time.

Thoughts ?????

LBA was 250m with RVR 300m yesterday so we diverted to MAN which was 7000m. So close, yet so far.

Thanks aroosh. What was the RVR on runway 14 do you remember?

i thought you were Cat 2 with those A310s so 300m rvr should have been ok ! having said that at the end of a long flight and fuel considerations it does not suprise me you went to Manchester.

Landed on the Ryanair from Lanzarote around 15.50 on Saturday think that was when the PIA was due. We did a Cat 3 on runway 32 the captain said it was 300m RVR.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
