i have just been looking at leeds bradfords webcam and it looks like the airbridge on stand 8 is not working because the pia flight are useing stairs to debord the passengers

I was gonna look out for it coming in this evening but it came in early damn! That's if it even came in over Otley (it did Weds cos I was at the road tunnel when it did).

ps didn't know there was a webcam for LBA I do now thanks to you :) I'm just watching it now it's not bad shame there's no sound!

Did anyone see the PIA land tonight? It came in on Runway 14 and from my garden in Cookridge seemed to take an alarming amount of runway...is that normal, or did it touch down late? I've never seen it land on 14 before.

The landing distance available on runway 14 is shorter than that on runway 32 so it will appear that it has taken more runway to stop. Having said that, a relatively large and heavy aircraft landing on a warm evening will use a little bit more runway.

It's landed on 14 a few times - I've seen it fly over Otley chevin on it's way in more than once.

It is simply a decision based on which runway is most favourable due to the wind direction. Runway 32 is normally in use, but if the wind swings around 14 will be utilised and as Aviador said, the LDA (Landing Distance Available) on runway 14 is less than that of 32.

Add to that the warm weather, any high humidity or surface water, then you can expect to see aircraft using more runway than they would on a colder clear day at LBA.

The delay I believe is due to severe weather in Islamabad. It is the monsoon season. An Air Blue A321 has also crashed in vicinity of ISB possibly due to the weather, according to the news.

It landed at 0831 right over my house and I heard nothing. I would suspect that as a result of the Air Blue crash, ISB would have closed for some hours as according to the news, the crash was near the airport. I can't imagine that weather would be responsible for a 15 hour delay that was pre-arranged. if it had been weather related the PIA would have left ISB as soon as the weather permitted with the delay unknown.
The fact that it was known last night that it was rescheduled to arrive here this morning, would suggest a fixed airport closure with passengers. No doubt one of our airport staff members will be able to confirm one way or the other though.

I suppose it depended upon whether or not the airport's fire crews were involved in the incident. If they were then the airport would have to close until they had the fire cover back in place.

Having done some reading up on the Air Blue crash on line, I don't think it was a weather related delay to PK775 to LBA . At the time of the Air Blue crash, Islamabad had low cloud and drizzle, and in fact the A321 had done a missed approach, but instead of turning on the normal routing after this, it flew straight on, and crashed into the hills. Two other flights due in, both PIA, had diverted though due to a combination of the low cloud and Runway 30 only having Cat 1 ILS.

On the Wednesday, the day the our PIA was due to depart, the airport was open, BUT PIA operated special flights from Karachi to ISB carrying the relatives of the dead passengers, so it is a possibility that our flight delay was caused by PIA using our A310 for this purpose. The fact that these passengers arrived from Karachi on Wednesday would suggest that the delay to PK775 was not weather related.

In addition, it would seem that ISB was swarming with people on the Wednesday, enquiring about the crash and the passengers, so it may be that flights were cancelled or delayed whilst all this was going on.

Just out of interest also, the Air Blue A321 that crashed was due to continue from ISB to MAN on its next flight, via Istanbul.

Is there any reason why tonights flight is showing as cancelled on the airports arrivals board

Simply beacuse it never left it's departure point! It's shown as cancelled on the Departure Board at Islamabad.

I rather think that Jonathan is hoping to find out why it is cancelled and I suspect he had already figured out that if it is cancelled at this end, it was cancelled in Islamabad too!! I would like to know too if anyone can enlighten us ?

Hi the followwing PIA flights are cancelled due to poor loads during the month of Ramadan upto Eid - 25AUG10-12SEP10

WED PK775/776 - 25AUG10 ISB-LBA-ISB
WED PK775/776 - 01SEP10 ISB-LBA-ISB
SAT PK775/776 - 11SEP10 ISB-LBA-ISB

Hope this clears up the situation.

The loads always drop off during Ramadan. It happens every year (Ramadan does too  )

The floods may have been a factor this year too.

An interesting thing to ponder over....

Last week I couldn't help but notice that more food and drinks were being imported into the UK from Pakistan than what went out as aid. :shok:

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
