Well my 777 training course in Manchester has been cancelled!! The management team have just been in talks with PIA and it looks like the flight is staying as the A310 for the foreseeable future.

It's a shame as the loads at the moment could probably support the big bird!

I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. I was really looking forward to seeing the 777 at our little airport.

We probably have more chance of a Shahean A330 landing at LBA than a PIA 777

Time will tell but this airline just seems to be one big joke

Does anyone know what the actual reason for this decision? Is it due to the airport not being able to get the equipment to handle the B777 or have PIA given false promises about the B777 which wouldn't be the first time they have done it with Leeds Bradford.

Its a shame that we won't see the PIA 777 next week up at LBA. I was looking forward to seeing it!

I must say that PIA need to sort themselves out quickly before passengers and even the airport lose faith in them. I would be very surprised if we see the 777 at LBA but hopefully i will be proved wrong on the 3rd April and we see one thundering down our little runway!

Now i'm worried. I just tried to do a mock booking on the PIA website for the date i fly out and return and it shows there is no flight. Would this mean that the routes bern dropped or are the flights full

I bet them flights have been removed or blocked from the website because they are now full and/or maybe even over booked now that it looks like they intend on using the A310's instead of using the larger Boeing 777's as planned.

PS
It just seems like lies after lies with PIA, how may times will the airport's management put up with them as we know it's not the first and I would hazard a guess it most likley won't be the last time they do so. I say bring on Shaheen and there A330's!

Potentially incriminating statement!

If only you knew what went on when Shaheen was at LBA! Believe you me Shaheen make PIA look like a well organised and professional airline.

Based on previous posts this is what happened with Glasgow. They promised a B777 then withdrew from the route. All we can do is wait and see. I wonder what the Airport PR team will do with this information.

Well does the airport need PIA I think the answer to that is no am sure in the next 12 months we will have a Middle East airline operating daily to LBA with the connections we need

I heard the airport wasn't quite ready, something to do with parking stands. Not sure how right that is though. It will all come out in the wash soon enough.

I just spoke to the first officer from the inbound flight and he said it is coming next week as he is rostered to fly it. But you never know he might not have been notified of the change

I thought pilots can just fly the one type?

They can fly sub types (such as B777-200 and B777-300), but I didn't they could cross manufacturers (Airbus and Boeing) without dropping a type (so if you were A310 trained going to B777, you had to drop the A310 licence?

Very true User001
He cannot be flying it as he can only hold one type rating at a time so if he is flying an A310 this week it would be almost impossible to train him on a Boeing 777 in time for next week. I am afraid he was having you on.

Sorry just read my post and realised it is wrong ! You can have more than one type rating but you can only be current on one type at a time . my B727 rating was still valid for 5 years after I transferred to the A300 but I would have needed retraining to go back to the B727 which includes simulator and line training.

Cheers for the clarification A300boy.

I think the sentiment still stands though, its very unlikely the first officer in question flies the A310 this week and the B777 next week.

Its times like this when I could get quite annoyed with the airports marketing team. Having made announcements about the 777 jointly with PIA, they should do likewise with PIA if the announced 777 is postponed or cancelled, explaininig why and what is going on. I would imagine that some people will have booked from LBA on the basis it was a 777, and that type was shown on the booking engine too. If they turn up and find they are on a packed out A310, or shipped off to another flight altogether, they won't be happy. Explanations are required sooner rather than later.

I think this more or less guarantee it will be an a310 if the first officer who flew it today will be returning next week.

Its amazing isn't it that all of a sudden the route stays to an A310 then you can only book until 27th March. Well i hope they go i really do, i hope the local residents carry on complaining so much that the airline pulls out that way we can see the back of a unreliable airline like PIA. Like i said you wonder why people are choosing Air Blue or Emirates from Man, i don't blame them. My Managers friend flew out today to Islamabad From Manchester via Dubai just so that he doesn't have to fly PIA even though PIA came in at £120 cheaper.

Also i jump to the 12th June 2013 on the PIA website and it is showing as a 777 still but half of the bloody flights before then and some after are missing!!!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
