Okay we might need to change the sums guys, because in that interview for the BBC Look North, the Airports CEO, David Laws did serpficily said "TUi were adding 10,000 outbound seats" .

Wither that's a miss representation by me I don't know, But could be an extra 10,000 inbound to add to the figures meaning a footfall of an extra 20,000....
Please feel free to tell me if I'm wrong?

As spare stands are at a premium I would suggest LBA management have asked TUI to look at a based 757 rather than an extra aircraft, other than W legs or foreign inbound operators. I am guesstimating completely here but would an extra 40 seats per flight, × by roughly 10 departures a week for give or take 26 weeks not be roughly 10000 extra too.

I'd have thought an extra 10,000 outbound seats would also equate to 10,000 inbound seats, the quote was 'outbound seats' not 'an extra 10,000 passengers through the airport'. To me it means an extra 20,00 footfall through the airport to add to passenger numbers

Given that the majority of Jet2’s expansion is over this Winter period, an extra Thomson aircraft in addition to a TCX aircraft are just replacements for the two free stands Monarch aircraft were previously utilising.

The rumour round the airport is that Thomson next year will be a 75 and a 73... but as Airport rumours go, PIA will be back next week!

Less than a week since we were absorbing very sad news and we are seeing nothing but positive news now. All this extra capacity is great for the airports and enthusiasts alike, but best of all it may just be the best news for those staff that were employed directly and indirectly by Monarch as these extra flights have to be crewed and handled by someone. Linking this all back to LBA directly it clearly shows how far the airport has come and how proactive new management are. If the demise of a major player had happened a few years ago it would have taken years to recover that loss. Whilst we know LBA has its operational limitations it is clearly firmly on the UK aviation map these days and long may that continue

This is where the 'extra' 10,000 seats are coming from ... ridding of the W patterns that TUI seemed to love from this airport and replacing them with additional flights. Could we also see the 757 make a return?

Finger66, i agree with you in the respect that this is great news for the airport and very much a bounce back from the 'doom and gloom' presented to us by the media Monday morning. However we have now gone from 5 weekly DLM (2x Jet2/3x Monarch) to 8 (4x Jet2, 3x Thomas Cook, 1x TUI) with Jet2 using 3 757 out of the 4 rotations which is a significant increase in seats especially if TUI bring their 757 and Thomas cook base a 321.

If so your looking at going from 1010 to 1787 (A321 and 757) or 1623 (A320 and 737-800) and i'm just a little bit dubious if the market can sustain that and deliver the yield airlines desire (when looking at the MAN-DLM market this is insignificant compared to the numbers out of there). This is without Jet2 releasing any information regarding their planned expansion too which is due at some point next week according to the interview and article on BBC.

I think they're still chopping and changing a few things. I can't seem to find the Fri CFU from Jun-Sep, just the Mon night flight. Also the Sat am PMI isn't there either. On Sunday the TFS has moved to an afternoon departure but the PMI is still showing as a late afternoon departure aswell.

I'm encouraged enormously by TUi's long-overdue enhanced programme from Leeds Bradford. I hope that it is not only a result of the sad demise of Monarch but also the realisation that they can no longer ignore the threat presented by Jet2 and they have started to fight back. Hallelujah for the epiphany !

If correct that only further emphasises the potential for two aircraft being based as oppose to it just being an upgrade to 1 75.
If the Palma is showing a late afternoon departure and we’re now hearing there’s an early Malaga and Tenerife departure on a Sunday then it does sound promising!

With regards to a Winter base, TCX did operate one a few years ago didn’t they? Monarch were only planning between 6-7 flights per week I believe maybe a few more. Even their winter presence wasn’t huge but it was something!

Tui or Thomson haven’t based in a winter for a very long time. The last I remember was their positioner on a Thursday evening for the Friday and Saturday operations to Sharm and Tenerife and then the aircraft positioned back out again.

With the correct marketing, which I do believe is also the partly the airports responsibility, TCX and TOM could be real forces over Summer AND Winter. Monarch after 4 years or so at Leeds we’re having their best Summer yet until their demise!

Early morning AGP, Afternoon TFS (makes sense) and then the evening PMI. Reckon they may squeeze a cheeky early rotation to ACE or PFO. My money is if it is two based it will be the ACE due to the quicker rotation times then a PFO. (0800-1215/1315-1715 ACE over 0700-1140/1255-1755 PFO - times taken off the block times for DSA which is similar distance).

The question is if we do get 2 based units where will they head?

Have I missed something here? LBA announced an additional 10,000 seats from TUi (and Ryanair). That translates into one or two extra flights per week, not the basing of a 2nd aircraft or even an upgrade to the 757. Just checking before I consider getting excited!

But to me WH, a few extra flights from TUI on a 738 won't translate to 10,000. A upgrade to 752 with those extra flights does which is why i've suggested it.

At the moment the timetable is up in the air, with a 0605 AGP and 1520 TFS on a Sunday and then the 1840 PMI. So some rejigging is needed or we need to get a little excited as we always do here at LBA.

All this in a doom and gloom week from a new exec. He can go banging on a few more airlines doors if he wants.

One extra departure on a 737 800 is 189 seats. Assuming that the 10,000 seats is outbound only (with inbound not being counted), then just one extra flight per week over the entire summer programme (roughly 26 weeks) equates to 4914 seats. Two flights per week equates to twice that - 9828. So 10,000 seats is little more than 2 extra flights over and above what we had already on a 737 800 for next summer. I hope you are right Sherburnflyer92.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
