I would go with the total withdrawal theory if I was a betting man!!.

At a guess I like others on here tend to agree that Thomson Airways will most likely drop the planned part basing of an aircraft at LBA for next summer now that the Sharm el Sheikh route has been dropped. I can’t see them coming in to operate just a once weekly service to Tenerife.

There are 2 options for Thomson Airways next summer...

1. They may well continue to base an aircraft at LBA for 2 days a week. Operating the weekly flight to Tenerife on Fridays as planned and maybe operates the weekly Ski Charter to Chambery on a Saturday in-house instead of Thomson holidays having to charter a Jet2, B737 aircraft.

2, I wonder if Thomson Holidays might well decide to replace the Tenerife flight with the reinstatement of the AEA223/224 Air Europa, B737-800 Friday service next winter instead which was axed a couple of years ago and replaced with the based Thomson flight.

Well can now confirm that Thomson Airways have pulled the part basing off an aircraft at Leeds/Bradford for next winter 2011/12 season due to the dropping of the weekly Egypt-Sharm el sheikh service.

The weekly Tenerife flight will continue to operate by Thomson Holidays but will be operated by a spanish based aircraft instead as folllows. I have heard that this may now be infact to be operated by a Air Europa aircraft but this is not confirmed at the moment..

TOM3531 = TFS 07:00 - LBA 11:30
TOM3530 = LBA 12:30 - TFS 16:55

I have been informed today that Thomson's are part basing an aircraft out in Tenerife Thursday to Sunday and will operate flights from Tenerife to UK Bases and back again.

Flight's will originate from Tenerife to: Doncaster Sheffield (Thursday), Leeds Bradford (Friday), Durham Tees Valley (Saturday) & Norwich International (Sunday).

A former collegue told me yesterday that he had tried to book on the first flight of the season to Palma. He could'nt because it was full! I hope that gives Thomsons a further nudge in LBA's direction for further services.

I thought I'd already asked but I can't find my post unless it's further back that I thought. Is the Thomson 767 confirmed and if so does anybody know which day of the week it's expected to join us?

I think it is more or less confirmed now. It will operate on Thursdays starting 5th of May - so next week :)

That is brilliant news - it will be good to see a TOM 767-300 at LBA every week. It has been a few years now since their previous 767 operation from here using the 200, although at least that was based here May - to July. A step in the right direction and hopefully a sign that TOM are not discounting LBA from their future plans.

Summer 2012 brochure is out and the following flights are planned to operate to/ from Leeds Bradford for Summer 2012.

Palma - Tuesday's - Arr 12:15 Dep 13:45 - 1st May to 23rd Oct 2012
Corfu - Friday's - Arr 14:30 Dep 15:45 - 4th May to 26th Oct 2012

will thomson be adding any more routes? the B767 is great news, but i heard sharm is dropped for 2011/12 winter does anybody know anyhting?

Ap1995, I think that is right about Sharm el Sheikh being dropped, leaving LBA with no flights to there this winter, unless Jet2 have a change of heart, which seems unlikely at this late stage. As for Summer 2012, that is seriously disappointing yet again, with just 2 TOM flights - which I think is the same as this year, although I stand to be corrected. Either way, just an extra flight or two would have been nice. Lets hope that the PMI flight is at least operated by a 767 again next summer.

I'm surprised that the PMI service is being operated on a Tuesday. Am I right in thinking that it was operated on Thursdays last year? I wonder if the fact that Tuesday being a 'quieter' day the B767 has become available, but still if they can fill it, they might as well use it.

First edition brochures are not wholly reliable as indicators of what may or may not happen.

I know that from speaking to members of the airport management that securing a bigger TOM presence is one of the top priorities for them and they view TUI as one of the big brand names that needs a bigger profile and presence at the airport. The Thomson retail store network in West & North Yorkshire is large and generates significant amounts of business (mainly for MAN flights rather than DSA, contrary to the popular misconception) and there is no question about there being enough volume to support a couple of based aircraft. Clearly that comes at a significant cost in terms of setting up the base and there needs to be a sound case that the benefit is there to outweigh this cost - a fact not helped by the fact that West/North Yorks customers are clearly booking in healthy numbers with TUI despite the virtual absence of any flights from their nearest airport. It may well need another tour operator to make a bolder move at Leeds such that the TUI retail network starts to suffer a reduction in business and they need to react. Alternatively, the airport could just throw money at them to offset the setup costs ! Either way, I doubt the airport have given up on any growth for Summer 12 just yet.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
