I read an article recently in which Thomson said that there had been a big downturn in bookings for Turkey and they were axing a lot of their flights there in favour of stronger selling routes.

Any news yet as to what Thomson's are operating from LBA this summer?

I have asked the same question for you on a Facebook group where some members can check the airports internal slot system.
I will update when I find out unless the original sources whom are on that Facebook page would rather post the details on here themselves instead.

Thomson Airways is once again going back into Bristol with 2 long haul flights, namely Can Cun and Orlando. The runway is slightly shorter at Bristol too than it is at LBA. Its frustrating as we know LBA could sustain holiday long haul even more so with the event of the 787. Our proximity to Manchester is our biggest problem sometimes, I wish they would at least trial an Orlando one year.

Thomson and First Choice appear to be launching their Summer 2017 offering today and they/LBA have announced an increase in capacity from LBA. Quite what that increase is, remains unclear. Could be a 757 upgrade or just more flights. They have also announced a new route to Faro (one previously operated by First Choice before Thomsons bought them out and instantly canned it), plus new 10-11 night holidays to Ibiza, suggesting at least 2 flights per week. However, it will be interesting to see which of the 2016 routes they have dropped, just because they always seem to give with one hand and take away with the other - but never tell us about the routes dropped.

My hope for 2017 is that the base aircraft actually stays at LBA and doesn't fly "w patterns" to the likes of Liverpool, Manchester or East Midlands.

That's 3 possible additional flights based on the 2016 Summer Plan.

Looks like Dalaman is the one dropped isn't it?

Suppose that's ordinary given everyone's cutting back on their Turkey offerings apart from the LCC's.

Good to see Thomson increasing capacity yet again from LBA for next summer 2017. The official press release has now been issued on the website.

More choice and variety for Yorkshire sun-seekers

Thomson and First Choice increase capacity from Leeds Bradford Airport and introduce new route to Faro, Portugal
21 April 2016 – Thomson and First Choice are today announcing increased capacity at Leeds Bradford Airport for their summer 2017 flying programme. This includes a new route to Faro, Portugal as well as new 10 and 11 night breaks to Ibiza which gives greater holiday flexibility to holidaymakers flying from the north of England.
The move to introduce new routes is part of the holiday company’s strategy to ensure customers across the UK can fly from their local airport and stay at the best hotels in some of the most exciting destinations. The new routes will go on sale today in line with the launch of summer 2017 holidays.
Customers travelling on the new route to Faro will now have access to some of Thomson and First Choice’s most popular flagship hotels, including First Choice’s 4Sun Holiday Village Algarve. The hotel boasts three outdoor pools, a splash pool and a jam packed programme of sports and activities, including a swim and football academy.
Those flying on flexible breaks to Ibiza can visit the 5T Sensatori Resort Ibiza which is located on the west coast of the island where guests can look forward to a sandy beachfront setting and sunset views.

Karen Switzer, Director of Aviation Planning for Thomson and First Choice, said: “Adding more capacity from Leeds with the introduction of a new route to Faro and new 10 and 11 night breaks to Ibiza demonstrates our commitment to Leeds Bradford Airport and the local area.
“Expanding access to our portfolio of destinations and hotels is a key part of our overall strategy and will enhance the holiday experience for our customers.”

Tony Hallwood, Aviation Development Director at Leeds Bradford Airport, said: “We’re really pleased that First Choice and Thomson are introducing their new Faro route from Leeds Bradford Airport, as well as 10 and 11 night holidays to Ibiza. We are sure that holidaymakers from across Yorkshire will enjoy being able to jet off from LBA to these destinations in summer 2017.
“At Leeds Bradford Airport, we are passionate about connecting Yorkshire with the rest of the world. We’re proud to offer even more routes from LBA in summer 2017, so that our customers have even more holiday choices.”

I see they took one of their B787 aircraft into Bristol today ! Shall we have a sweepstake on the date when they would bring one to Leeds if they ever do.

having announced last year they were dropping the Thomson and First Choice brand names, seems strange they lead a press release with these two brand names, they should vanish by 2017. The recent AGM stated they were to accelerate the name change not slow it down.

Looks like Dalaman is the one dropped isn't it?

Suppose that's ordinary given everyone's cutting back on their Turkey offerings apart from the LCC's.

It makes sense really. "If" anything were to happen it would cost the inclusive tour companies millions with potential repatriation flights and compensation for hotel accommodation cancellations. Low cost airlines on the other hand will just have to repatriate their customers so it would work out significantly cheaper for them.

Fingers crossed it won't come to that anyway.

I'm really disappointed with Thomson. Their 'new' destination is not exactly new to the airport. And they don't really stand a chance up against jet2, Ryanair or monarch who offer much more flexibility when it comes to holidays down in the Algarve. Why couldn't they add something unique, somewhere we haven't seen before or somewhere they are strong in?! Greek markets - santorini maybe? Even EFL offering some competition for jet2. They seem to be given the market to jet2 and jet2 holidays.

Then what's with this W patterning off to LPL?! That's 2 extra flights the airport could benefit from instead of sending the aircraft off to an airport where competition is from two low cost carriers who offer far more flexibility in those destinations then Thomson can even dream about. Canaries and Greek islands would be good offering from Thomson with those 2 extra flights. I guess the only positive is that they are still with us in 2017.

We need a charter company that will offer long haul holiday routes. Routes that we know are doable from LBA. Orlando and Mexico are the obvious ones that spring to mind.

Notedly the Bristol runway is a good 200m shorter than the runway at LBA so there's no reason why #Thomson can't operate the #dreamliner from Leeds.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
