Sadly there is ! They do not want to and probably never will but who knows what might happen in the future.
Is that an assumption on your part a300boy, or based on information you hold? I suspect that it is more to do with them not having enough aircraft to go round. They haven't operated the 787 out of DSA either, despite its super-duper long runway, so it isn't down to Thomson's supposed aversion to LBA.

Let's not forget that Thomson left LBA.... but then returned back to Leeds after only a short break.

I wouldn't necessarily say Thomson will never operate long haul from Leeds. They have the aircraft capable of operating out of Leeds, LBA need to play their cards right and get them back on side.

Manchester airport's close proximity doesn't have to mean they won't ever use LBA. Manchester is getting busy. LBA will suffer fewer delays. Manchester has some expensive terminal projects that will need paying for. LBA could become a cheaper alternative in the future.

The aversion to LBA is for certain ! however I know that the marketing team at LBA see them as a key operator and are trying very hard to get them to increase operations from here. On the subject of DSA I believe they have operated charter flights from there with the 787 last winter to the Caribbean.

Have they? I wasn't aware of any recent Caribbean flights from DSA and believed that the Thomson flights to the West Indies ceased from DSA at the same time they ceased from LBA, but no doubt someone will confirm.

They only did two or three and they might have been cruise ship passengers. I watched one depart on flight radar 24. Just a question for you all ! If Thomsons started operating regular long haul flights from the yorkshire region would you expect it to be from DSA or LBA.

I would of thought it would be DSA Thomson have more flights from there and seem happier there not to mention the long runnway

Except of course that Thomson also know they are losing a lot of business from West and North Yorkshire to their competitors due to their failure to provide a better offering from LBA. They thought everyone would trot down to DSA as loyal customers and were wrong. First Thomas Cook, then Jet2 Holidays and latterly Cosmos all picked up business lost by Thomson. At least we now have a based aircraft in summer but to have much chance of having flights to Florida etc. that aircraft needs to be a 787 - and that (I suspect) is a while away yet. If DSA can't get a 787 base, then we won't either.

The recently formed TUI group want to push their holiday packages more upmarket and therefore DSA base will they hope with its limited local based competition be the place to be. LBA offering a wide choice of bucket and spade holidays is not where they want to be and at the moment promotes, Thomson and First Choice brands, both these brands will disappear in the next 18 months.
Its possible in 2018 when the TUI brand is fully launched in the u.k. we could see a total shift in the offer and the higher revenue generated by the premier hotel and adult only brands enables them to offer from LBA holidays that distance them from Thomas Cook and Jet2 Holidays and the like of all the internet rivals such as On the Beach.

Thats my thoughts ! Just interested to see what other members think.

Thomson has opted for Bristol for its resumption of Florida and Mexico flights from Severnside instead of Cardiff that has the longer runway.

Bristol won't be a 787 base either

Thomson's seem to be changing the based aircraft on an almost daily basis this year with G TAWU the latest incarnation which i reckon, at least by registration, is their newest B738

Looks like Thomson Holidays have been altering the summer 2017 schedule

It seems that they may have had a change of mind regards using Monarch Airlines for next summer 2017's new weekly Sunday Malaga flights. As I see the flight times have been revised to be operated by a non based aircraft with Airline TBC (To be confirmed)

TBC---- = AGP 12:30 - LBA 14:40 / TBC---- = LBA16:10 - AGP 20:15

Also they have also added an extra weekly flight to Palma Majorca on Fridays and again as above its listed to be airline TBC. This year it's been operated by Air Europa.

TBC---- = PMI 12:30 - LBA 14:25 / TBC---- = LBA 15:55 - PMI 19:35

The based Thomson Airways aircraft operates as follows programme still.

Mondays
TOM3172 = LBA 06:00 - IBZ 09:40 / TOM3173 = IBZ 18:15 - LBA 19:55
Tuesdays
TOM3250 = LBA 08:05 - PMI 11:45 / TOM3251 = PMI 20:25 - LBA 22:10
Wednesdays
TOM3316 = LBA 06:00 - PMI 09:40 / TOM3317 = PMI 10:40 - LBA 12:25
TOM3338 = LBA 13:55 - PFO 20:35 / TOM3339 = PFO 21:50 - LBA 00:50*
Thursdays
TOM3432 = LBA 06:30 - PMI 10:10 / TOM3433 = PMI 11:20 - LBA 13:05
TOM3446 = LBA 14:40 - FAO 17:40 / TOM3447 = FAO 18:40 - LBA 21:40
Fridays
TOM3550 = LBA 06:00 - CFU 11:25 / TOM3551 = CFU 12:25 - LBA 13:55

TOM3518 = LBA 23:05 - IBZ 02:45 / TOM3519 = IBZ 03:45 - LBA 05:25*
Saturdays
TOM3618 = LBA 07:50 - PMI 11:30 / TOM3619 = PMI 12:30 - LBA 14:15
TOM3646 = LBA 15:30 - RHO 12:40 / TOM3647 = RHO 22:40 - LBA 01:10*

Heraklion and Dalaman dropped then for next year?

Think you'll find Turkey Dalaman and Crete Heraklion routes were both dropped as destination's avaliable from Leeds by Thomson's last year. They don't even operate them routes this summer 2016 season as they were replaced with extra flights to Palma, never mind next year when they increase operations once again..

Worked out Thomson Holidays must be using a (so far unnamed airline) with an Birmingham based aircraft to operate both next summer 2017's Friday Palma-Majorca & the new Sunday Malaga w-leg flights. As the following patterns currently are shown in there flight only booking website.

Fridays
BHX 08:15 PMI 11:40 / PMI 12:40 LBA 14:25 / LBA 15:55 PMI 19:35 / PMI 20:35 BHX 22:05
Sundays
BHX 07:40 AGP 11:30 / AGP 12:30 LBA 14:40 / LBA 16:10 AGP 20:15 / AGP 21:15 BHX 23:10

Has anyone any idea to which airline or aircraft type this is going to be?

Because having looked on the Birmingham Thomson Airways thread they are showing some flights next summer 2017 to be operated by airline (D8) which I'm lead to believe is the 2 letter code for Norwegian Air Shuttle.. I'll say no more!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
