Following what has happened today with Qatar and UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt & Bahrain, all flights between those countries and Doha have been suspended. However I also saw this mentioned on another forum:

“Doha TMA (terminal manoeuvring area) is surrounded on all sides by Bahrain and Jeddah FIRs (flight information regions) . You cannot fly to/from Doha at all without entering those airspaces. If that OVF (flight permit) is denied, Qatar is entirely cut off from an aviation perspective.”

If this does turn out to be true, Qatar Airways (and Qatar itself) will be in for a rough time...

They couldn't deny Qatari aircraft from flying within their own airspace. That would essentially be an act of war.
Qatar as a country will be fine, it's very rich and has massive LNG reserves which it sells a lot to the UAE! Only thing for it is it does import 40% of it's food but that means it'll just have to bring it in by sea and air and not land. Hopefully this is just a diplomatic spat and will be resolved soon but if it isn't Qatar will just have to essentially operate like an island.

I believe the issue that post was alluding to is that above Qatar, that airspace is under Qatari jurisdiction. However the airspace adjoining Qatari airspace on all sides is under the jurisdiction of one of the four counties who have severed ties with Qatar. I.e. to get to Qatar from the rest of the world, you MUST fly through either Egyptian, Saudi, Bahrain or UAE airspace.

Hopefully this isn't going to become permanent, but in the current global state who knows.

I think that's part of the problem. The other countries are getting jealous and consider Qatar to be getting to big/dominant/powerful.

As far as I know the aircraft would fly North from Qatar into Iranian airspace and then wherever they fly onto.
Hopefully this will be sorted out soon. I can see the Americans getting involved as mediators otherwise it won't just effect Qatar and QR confidence in the ME3 as a whole may well be effected.

This is being reported as being to be about support for terrorist organisations. Who supports what in that region is beyond my comprehension but it is certainly more important than which airline will have to use what routeing.

Mental. QR427 (Beirut - Doha, which, if you're familiar with the area, you'll know to be a convoluted route at the best of times) currently over Cyprus, heading NORTH WEST. Barmyness pervades, this won't go on for very long...:wacky:

Looks nice.

The Qatar CEO seems very particular when it comes to the interior of his aircraft so I have no doubt that it will be done to the highest standard.

Excellent review of the Business class product on Qatar Airlines from BHX-DOH and an excellent piece of advice on how to get business class at a rock bottom price £750 to be exact, not bad.

A very informative and enjoyable video. I do note however that he says Qatar Airways 'may' offer you an upgrade, which may be dependant on how busy business class is.
I love the fact that the No 1 lounge offers fishfinger sandwiches - I've not had one of those since I was a lad. As for the meal on the plane, I'd have sent that beef back. Utterly ruined!
Throughout the video, I kept trying to think of who his voice and accent reminded me of. Right at the end, I remembered - comedian Henning Wehn.

I am going to the No1 lounge later today. Their fish finger sandwiches are of a very poor quality and I have told them so repeatedly.

Surely, after a couple of bad experiences you didn't keep going back for more:wideyed:

Wherever you are off to, have a good trip and hopefully find some decent food.

Regards

Kevin

Did you also notice that even at the excellent Doha Hamad Intrernational Airport, you are sometimes transported from the plane to the terminal on a bus, even from a brand new 787

Even at BHX, this would never happen unless the airbridge is broken :smug: we service the Qatar 787 with great respect.

Talking of such things is everything back to normal at the gate for the A380 after the problems a while ago?

I seem to remember it was out if action for quite some time.

Before a flight to Dalaman last year went into No.1 lounge and indeed had the fish finger sandwich. Very tasty

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
