A piece promoting KLM at Leeds, passenger numbers and the desire to increase this is doing the rounds on social media. No mention of all the job losses in Yorkshire by making the UK crew redundant however.. with both Leeds and Humberside crew bases closing. Funny that.

Yeh just seen that footage. Think they said they are aiming for 200,000 pax from LBA.

What's the theoretical capacity from LBA? Loads always seemed good when have used them. Wonder if they are losing pax to BA, or just want to entice some to fly LBA with KLM rather than other airlines over the Pennines.

The 737 might tempt some who want to avoid D6 amd the bus ride around Schipol. The trade off is a longer walk, but it always seems less of a faff about.

Reinstating the 4th daily rotation (E190/175) would be a start, but no sign of it yet for summer 18.
CMJ, I find gate D6 at AMS very convenient; much more convenient than last week's trek to D24 for my flight to EDI.

They don't have enough aircraft or crew at the moment thats why our 4th rotation diapered from the schedules suddenly. They are recruiting like crazy in the Netherlands to replace all the UK crew leaving and they just ordered a few more Embraers so the 4th rotation may be back at some point.

I was reminded (sort of) by some recent 'terrifing landing at LBA' nonsense-video going around (Ryanair I think - it looked a bit bumpy, but 'terrifying'? get a grip people) that I have felt KLM have usually tried fairly hard to land at LBA. They often go round for a fair while, and I have had some 'interesting' landings with them. I am in no doubt that all the landings were safe, but some were rather on the hard side.

With the LBA base closing, I wonder if KLM will be more ready to just divert. After all, it's just a hotel change for the crew now. Is there less 'incentive' to get back into LBA, rather than just saying "stuff this, divert to somewhere else."

Its not just about the crew. KLM rely on providing people with a seamless connection via AMS to their destination. If they are constantly diverting then people will miss those connections and be reluctant to fly with them again. Also constantly hiring coaches to ferry passengers to other airports because of diverts costs money and annoy passengers. Especially if they are paying a bit extra to fly locally.

You know I totally forgot to factor in they'd have to get the passengers back to Leeds, or from Leeds to somewhere else. I evidently need more coffee today (which is probably true - had a very bad night with a not very well baby).

After making the point that Klm have been using more and more E170 aircraft on the route and questioning if they were doing very well as one of our regular posters had reported it was pointed out to me the holiday period often sees a drop off in passenger numbers.
This would seem to be confirmed as I noticed this mornings inbound Newcastle service is being operated by a E170 which I have never seen before.

Not just E170s. We had a Fokker 70 in a few days ago. The summer holidays usually sees a reduction in business travel and a lot of KLM passengers are just that, so there is bound to be a reduction in the numbers travelling at this time of year.

Is there any indication yet as to whether we might see different aircraft once the crew base closes?

Thanks lbaspotter. Presumably that is the same for Winter 2017/18? It would be nice to think that we may get something different every now again.

KLM have made some cut backs to the summer 2018 programme network wide due to what i understand is slot reasons at Amsterdam.

Newcastle route has been reduced to 4x daily and Teeside is down to just 2x daily peak summer. It would seem Leeds/Bradford schedule has got of lightly with the route mainly remaining operated 3 daily using Embrear 190 aircraft.
The only reduction I see is that the Saturday afternoon KLM1549/1550 rotation will not operate up until June 30th. Good news is it then returns to operate as from July 7th for remainder of the season.

LBA getting off lightly is no doubt due to the BA cutbacks on the LBA LHR route. KLM very committed to LBA and sensible enough to see that maintaining frequency helps them keep or even increase market share.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
