When Capital ceased operating, after the first couple of days, all their fleet was moved up to the pan at the end of the old runway 01/19. I was, at the time, a member at Horsforth Golf Club and they were all very close to our 10th tee - just over the fence in fact. For those that remember 1990 Do two a320s take up as much room as 6 x s360s and 2 x 146s I wonder? Either way there are more losers than winners in all of this. It does show that any business has to be run profitably so we cant necessarily ever criticise LBA management for not throwing money at things willy nilly. I think its time to move forwards now however sad the monarch demise is for all concerned
As they are operating at night too Bigman, there would be nowhere to park such large aircraft even if they opted to fly up to LBA to deposit our pax here. Shame, as both can land here and take off empty. Are these Wamos flights doubling up on rescue flights, or is it just the case that they do not want to risk an A330 into LBA?
It seems to me that as time goes on with this repatriation process, less and less of the LBA passengers are being flown back to LBA! Only 50% today and 25% tomorrow. I can't help thinking that the process put in place by the CAA has not favoured our passengers at all. Fine having split loaders but why should the LBA pax have to be then bussed over 200 miles from Gatwick? The Wamos Air is capable of landing at LBA and during the day I am sure they could have made one off arrangements to accommodate it. Likewise the Tenerife flight into BHX. Granted, late at night it would be more difficult with the LBA apron full to capacity.
