ZBAR is on final approach into Shannon now, shame I missed seeing it leave, flew on it this summer from LBA to faro
Farewell ZBAR 😢😢😢

For those that remember 1990 Do two a320s take up as much room as 6 x s360s and 2 x 146s I wonder? Either way there are more losers than winners in all of this. It does show that any business has to be run profitably so we cant necessarily ever criticise LBA management for not throwing money at things willy nilly. I think its time to move forwards now however sad the monarch demise is for all concerned
When Capital ceased operating, after the first couple of days, all their fleet was moved up to the pan at the end of the old runway 01/19. I was, at the time, a member at Horsforth Golf Club and they were all very close to our 10th tee - just over the fence in fact.

Are these Wamos flights doubling up on rescue flights, or is it just the case that they do not want to risk an A330 into LBA?
As they are operating at night too Bigman, there would be nowhere to park such large aircraft even if they opted to fly up to LBA to deposit our pax here. Shame, as both can land here and take off empty.

Heard today that when Monarch staff attempted to gain access to the LBA crew room and admin staff attempted to reclaim personal possessions after the overnight shocker, they were met with “Heavys” preventing access to former rented airline premises.

Unclear to find out whether they were from the CAA or KMPG Administrators but seems a bit excessive. Can understand it has to be official and to the book but still very upsetting and puts everything into perspective about the loss of such an iconic operator!!

Yes it's a very sad and messy affair for all concerned. The passengers, the crews and office staff not forgetting all those who work for the handling agent Swissport who's jobs will be "at risk" right now. All being well, Thomas Cook will base year-round from winter 18/19 to soften the blow for all concerned.

If the rumours about Boeing providing the bulk of the 165m bail out 12 months ago are to be believed, do Boeing really have the right to complain about subsidies and state aid to Bombardier? At the end of the day its still financial support aimed at the longer term survival whichever way you look at it. Or am I wrong?

It seems to me that as time goes on with this repatriation process, less and less of the LBA passengers are being flown back to LBA! Only 50% today and 25% tomorrow. I can't help thinking that the process put in place by the CAA has not favoured our passengers at all. Fine having split loaders but why should the LBA pax have to be then bussed over 200 miles from Gatwick? The Wamos Air is capable of landing at LBA and during the day I am sure they could have made one off arrangements to accommodate it. Likewise the Tenerife flight into BHX. Granted, late at night it would be more difficult with the LBA apron full to capacity.

I couldn't agree more Heather. I seem to recall something similar happening before when a tour operator went bust. I'm not sure if it was Sunseekers Leisure or another operator? In any case I can recall some aircraft going to other airports rather than using LBA.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
