Can you tell me where I can read this 'rule', I've had a look on the CAA website but can't find anything. As far as I know, the only rule is about the time taken to get to an incident. From memory I think it says they should be able to get there within 80 secs, but I might be wrong. The current fire station certainly doesn't have a view of the whole airfield, but no one sits and watches anyway, they get alerted by the VCR.

f you say nobody uses the watchroom anymore then perhaps this is no longer a requirement but the time it takes to get to all areas certainly will be.
It makes the most sense to plonk a new fire station very close to the midway point of the runway. At Leeds this point is also central to the majority of the ramp operations
