Can you tell me where I can read this 'rule', I've had a look on the CAA website but can't find anything. As far as I know, the only rule is about the time taken to get to an incident. From memory I think it says they should be able to get there within 80 secs, but I might be wrong. The current fire station certainly doesn't have a view of the whole airfield, but no one sits and watches anyway, they get alerted by the VCR.

Hi there Quik123

f you say nobody uses the watchroom anymore then perhaps this is no longer a requirement but the time it takes to get to all areas certainly will be.

It makes the most sense to plonk a new fire station very close to the midway point of the runway. At Leeds this point is also central to the majority of the ramp operations

No idea what the rules are but at BHX the fire station is slap bang at the centre point of the runway with a clear view of the full length of the runway however you can only see about 50% of the passenger terminal area from there. Obviously there are regulations but perhaps there is some kind of flexibility.

Whilst enjoying a coffee and chat this morning at Multiflight Cafe there was a regular arrival of large 8 wheel wagons of Hansons delivering loads of aggregate to Mutliflight. In the 2 hours I was there there were at least 7 arrivals.

Also noted parked side by side by the fire station were 4 (Brand new) bendi-buses in a light blue and white colour scheme. Are these new acquisitions for the airport?

I can't find any further details about the Multiflight plans. You would have thought they'd have popped it on their website!

I see the new car park construction opposite The Hawthorne pub is continuing, yet I can't see any planning application for it on the Leeds planning website. Anyone know why there doesn't seem to be planning permission for this? Perhaps it is some sort of permitted development but I doubt it as Sentinel needed permission only a few hundred metres away.

I am pretty sure the airport doesn't actually need planning permission within it's operational boundary. I think White Heather will be able to elaborate on it.

As Aviador has indicated, I don't think they need planning consent to build a car park within airport land - or if they do, then the council have probably given blanket approval previously. Remember that this car park is includes in the Airport Masterplan, which went to the Council and was given their complete support after going through the usual consultation period. It took a long time to get their approval and at the time, it was stated that this delay was in part so that everything within the Masterplan was supported by Leeds City Council. It would be strange indeed if they gave their support to what is in the Masterplan and then insisted that the airport submit individual planning applications for each project which could then be rejected by the very Council that signed off the Masterplan!

I doubt there was any planning application for the previous car parks developed to the East of the airport terminal either. Sentinel was a different matter, not being on airport land.

Many thanks for this. I wonder how I can find out? The way your answer is written suggests we don't actually know, we just presume it is that way.

WH: I fully understand your reasoning on the local authority view, however, circumstances have changed since the master plan with the news of the parkway Station and the assumed route of the link road.
I have to admit a local resident and I already think too much traffic using this side of the airport, new parking should be off the link road in my view. I accept this may be in the distant future but I think locals have the right to know that everything on the Master Plan will not just get accepted when situation now so different.
I would expect once the link road up no traffic will be allowed to access the airport via the A658 on to Whitehouse Lane from the Rawdon direction, this will make this car park and the Sentinal park redundant and all traffic in to and out the airport will use the link road.
The ability in the next decade to completely change for locals the traffic situation is enormous and I know from our neighbourhood ideas have been directed at our local MP, with air quality the new buzz word, no way the council can continue its present plans for airport traffic.

From what I remember planning approval had been granted to carry out work to make B Hall more aesthetically pleasing. This was under the old management and company but I expect the work will be done as planned. If you go back far enough through this thread you will see illustrations of the work. Don't get too excited.

I have an interest quik123 as I live very close to the airport and as a result I am keeping my eye on developments that could have an effect on my situation.

Sorry Tarn Spotter, the Masterplan included this car park, AND shows the proposed route of the link road, AND shows the Parkway Station. Nothing has changed other than the fact that all parties are now signed up to it so I am puzzled as to what it is that you believe has changed since it's publication?

LBA has to provide more parking to cater for planned expansion and therefore has to use the space available to it. At this point I don't see how they can develop car parking any further down off Scotland Lane as the final route for where that link road might run (assuming Option 1) has not yet been determined. No point in developing an extended car park down there, getting further and further from the terminal) only to find it's in the way of the new link road!

I also think that the chances of stopping traffic accessing the airport from the Rawdon side once any link road is built are NIL. This would result in a diversion which is unnecessary and would be seen as a backward step for all people wanting to access LBA from the Rawdon direction, or indeed from Guiseley, Skipton ,Pool, Otley etc. The very existence of the link road will remove a significant amount of traffic from the A658.

What you appear to be suggesting is that the airport should refrain from carrying out developments on it's own land on the Yeadon side of the airport, instead carrying out its developments down on the Horsforth side. I suspect those living on that side will have a different view.

Some else mentioned it might be for the baggage system upgrade, do you know in any more detail what that is or what it entails?
It's works to replace the baggage scanning/screening machine and associated baggage belt changes. Works started last week for Hall B and I think they are to last 6 weeks. then it's Hall As turn.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
