Very sad to learn that. RIP.

Montserrat Caballe aged 85. Mainly remembered in the UK singing Barcelona with Freddie Mercury but with an operatic career that was long and distinguished.

Deadly Doug had claret and blue running through his vains I'm sure he will look down on Villa Park just to keep an eye on things

R.I.P. Doug from a bluenose.

If i remember correctly he was part of a team that sabotaged the ****'s nucleur weapons programme by sinking a barge carrying heavy water in a Norwegian Fjord. The course of the war may well have been different if his team had failed. RIP.

Former BBC newsreader Richard Baker has died at the age of 93.

The son of a plasterer, London-born Baker introduced the first news bulletin broadcast on BBC TV in July 1954.

I've particularly fond memories of Richard Baker. As I had an interest in newsreaders, many years ago my wife tried to get me a book he had written "Here is the News" as a birthday present, but it was out of print. She therefore wrote to him c/o the BBC and he very kindly sent a signed free copy with a personal note. A good read and it remains on our book shelf.

The news readers were not seen in the earliest bulletins as it was thought facial expressions might 'colour' the news being broadcast. Thankfully, that policy was quickly stopped and Richard Baker, Kenneth Kendall and Robert Dougall became familiar faces on our screens.
Dougall had been a news reader on the Home Service previously.

Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks aged 63
I was saddened to read this news a lttle earlier on the BBCi website.
Pete Shelley helped define the sound of the late 70's and early 80's and it's sad to read that he has been taken from us at such a relatively young age.
It's always hard to click the 'Like' button in these circumstances, but I do so in recognition to his contribution to the sounds of my youth.

R.I.P. Pete

Former Marmalade singer Dean Ford and original Hollies bass player Eric Haydock have recently died..

Met my wife to be at Solihull Civic Hall in November 1969 when Marmalade performed their number one Obladi O bla Da so RIP and thank you for what is our song via Lennon and McCartney.

Very sad to hear about the passing if Windsor Davies :(

'Oh dear, How sad, Never mind!'

Sorry, I couldn't resist quoting one of the Sergeant Major's catch phrases.
Very sad to read of Windsor Davies' passing. 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum' is one of my all time favourite comedies. Sadly, it's now thought to be 'non-PC' and is no longer broadcast.

RIP Mr Davies and thanks for all the laughs.

Kevin

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
