Although under Kehoe's tenure he got a lot of new airlines in to BHX, a lot of them were one season wonders. I'd much rather have a CEO who targets say 1 airline a year and ensure they stay, than a CEO who gets 3 or 4 new airlines per year, but after a year or 2 most of them are gone.
Mr Kehoe (Keep Enticing However Over Excessive) seemed to have a thing about attracting BA. When that happened and he had his picture taken under the tail fin he was gone.(My job is done here?)
Shortly after so were BA.

Africaada anyone?
And any effort he is making to grow the airport is probably being undermined by the current political situation in the UK. Airlines and Companies are not investing in UK PLC. And why would they ??
I think it is bigger than a UK issue. Oversupply in Europe is affecting airline viability and caution has set in. A very quiet year this far. Even Jet Blue was underwhelming in its ambition.

Investment might be slowing down south but not up north Manchester just had record investment from
abroad

I think as well for airports the amount of airlines they can go to is shrinking as well.

I go on just about every forum as my interest in UK not just Manchester in particular MAN, BHX, EXT, EMA, LPL,
and NCL plus London as I used to work in business travel and conference but as I have a great number of friends from BHX
Why do you ask do you have problem because many of BHX guys are on Manchester as well and are very welcome.

Is that a hint that we will shortly see a long haul route announced to a place in Colorado? :)

Spot on (y)

Residents of the Midlands will be able to access an unrivalled network of destinations across the USA providing vital connectivity for business and leisure travellers alike. All it involves is for the travelling public to make a 90 odd minute journey down the M40 where the world awaits. If you are accessing the motorway via Junction Six of the M42 please feel free to wave at BHX as you drive on by. If the USA isn't what you are looking for then there are never seen before services to extremely exotic locations such as Athens, Lisbon, Stockholm and Valencia.

Who knows, maybe BHX can look forward to growth in the next few years by way of a 15th weekly Ryanair service to Malaga and possibly a 16th weekly to Alicante?

April wasn't too shabby with I estimate around 1m pax using BHX !

However Ian, have you got a sniff of any new routes planned for BHX ? If BHX carries on like this we will become the only airport that carries more pax to Alicaaaaaaaaaaaante and Malaaaaaaaaaaaaaga combined than all the other routes served from BHX.

Sorry that might be a slight exaggeration and slighty sarcastic :bored:

Probably the most depressing post i have read on the forum
Ray has strived to keep moral high over the last couple of years and kept us at least in hope that good news was just over the horizon without making silly predictions and resorting to wish lists being posted as rumours with foundation.
If this is how he feels then things do look bad.

I use my local airport, Southend. The US network is based on high use of local airports in a hub and spoke system.

If residents and businesses do not use their local airport, new routes will not be added and existing routes will close. The most important thing for the airport to do right now is stress how convenient and affordable the local airport is.

Put local bums on seats and the routes will grow.

The City and councils can then help by using the Greater Birmingham moniker and promoting the World Beta city's value for business and investment. There are some very significant sector growth investment coming and announcements to be made. Plus the Commonwealth Games (remember what those games did for Manchester's profile? A football team became a renowned city).

Also promote the city and region as a tourism destination abroad. It is the only major UK city to feature in staycation top 10 lists I have seen for this year in various newspapers. But we need to get the overseas visitors from this cities thw airport server.

So give it time. It looks bleak but routes will return...notwithstanding the grotesque over capacity in Europe (it won't remain for long), and another recession (likely). But 18 mppa by 2030 is still the most likely outcome.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
