That was the most intense game of cricket that I have ever witnessed, I've been up and down like Tower Bridge. Heading into the last couple of overs I thought that New Zealand had it in the bag but luck seemed to be on the side of England. After the first super over I thought 15 may have been enough but with England bowling a wide on the first ball then New Zealand getting a 6 I was convinced that it would go to NZ. What a finish.

Although I am over the moon that England won it's a real shame for New Zealand who didn't deserve to lose, especially with the game and the super over both ending in a draw.

Congratulations England but cricket was definitely the overall winner (y)

I didn't see much of the game. I was at Clifton College Close watching Gloucestershire Over 50s beat Wales Over 50s in a County Championship Over 50s competition. That too was an exciting game that went to three balls from the end. I kept in touch with the England match of course and saw the last part of the super over on the telly in the pavilion.

We were a bit confused as to how England had won at first but then learned that they counted back to the number of boundaries per side.

It does seem that New Zealand were desperately unlucky to lose and some might say England won on a technicality. Everyone knew the rules before the competition began and a win is a win as long as it's within the rules so many congratulations to the England team, the squad and management.

Now for the Ashes!

It was certainly a Super Sunday of sport in the UK today, and the sun shone for the most part I believe.

Who said cricket is boring an unbelievable finish and great for England but really it should be declared a tie I reckon not that I'm complaining.

Just come down from who knows where my emotions have been. My son summed it up after he came back from a short bike ride broad grin on his face: "i take it England won. I could tell from all the cheers from the houses down the street."

What a brilliant couple of games for English and Welsh cricket.

So so pleased. Summer sport tops all others.

Well today i realised that the saying everyone hates the English really is true, all i’ve seen on social media today is people from other countries saying that NZ should’ve won the cricket even though England won fairly and to the rules...

Not a clue why people can’t stand seeing our teams succeed no matter what sport

It is strange because it's not as if we ever win much, certainly not in team sports anyway. If England was continually winning at every or most sports dislike/envy/annoyance (whatever it is) from people in other countries might be more readily understandable.

Brazil won the 1994 FIFA World Cup in a penalty shoot-out. A super over might be likened to that. I can't remember people saying that Brazil were lucky.

In fact, New Zealand had an extra ball to face and extra run when England bowled their super over because the first was a wide. I was at another match yesterday and afterwards I suggested to a small group of players that England had won on a technicality (by scoring more boundaries in the regular match). One of them, a former England one-day international, jumped down my throat and said, "We've just won the World Cup for ***** sake". He was right.

Exactly my point, I know I saw in the past that people thought the "it's coming home" song and the chant was sheer arrogance, but I personally thought that was us being self-aware, mocking our own enthusiasm. We all knew the odds were stacked heavily against us no matter how the groups and tournament went.

Really strange

I think a combination of the Brits love an underdog and the fact it was New Zealand, who played so well, and who we regard as one of us is the reason for some of the negativity that has been reported. In a way its almost endearing. .
I reckon if it had been any other team we would be laughing at their bad luck.

It's the media really. It's because the English media tend to overhype things and then go on and on about it. 1966 is an example. They still go on about that today! Also as a country England's relationship with many countries through history has been a dominant, overbearing and in many cases a bullying one. Hence why for many countries beating England is a major objective! In Wales with rugby for many it's a bigger achievement beating England than winning the Grand slam or world cup. Same with most other sports. In essence people like to see England humbled and not winning!

I have my interview to become a Commercial Pilot at CAE tomorrow alongside representatives from a certain Airline too. I think I have mentioned what airline it is before.

So so nervous, been revising for days on end now. Fingers crossed I pass

Best of luck mate, we'll all have everything crossed for you :)

I know we've discussed this before elsewhere Jerry but few English people seem to want Wales or Scotland to lose at anything unless they are playing England, but the reverse is certainly not the case.

We have three grandsons in Australia at the moment - two live there and the third is on a working visa. He has also been playing cricket in the last Oz summer and currently is playing football (or soccer as Australians insist on calling it). He's been getting some stick from his Ozzie team mates about England's (to them) lucky win. In fact, they insist England didn't win at all and, with the further controversy about the extra run that apparently should not have been awarded when the deflected throw to the wicket struck Stokes' bat and diverted for four, it has encouraged them to wind him up even more. The funny thing is many Australians regard New Zealand as the country they like least and usually want to see them lose in any sporting event.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
