So, if Airbus can manage Gibraltar is there not a Boeing capable? The reason airlines do not serve the airport? My curiosity is getting to itch!
I believe that the 737 and 757 can operate into Gibraltar but the 737 especially is a lot less capable of doing it.

Therefore, we are seeking the wrong airlines to operate such as Ryanair and Easy jet with their equipment whilst Eastern do have smaller capable aircraft but with limited capacity. Not an easy one. Thank you Jerry.

With he smaller aircraft it should work well for them. I will be looking with interest.

Looking with interest at this becasue a friend lives there.

In scanning the thread I saw Jenny Jet's immaculate prediction of May 2020 "a document may need to be carried when in close proximity to others to say if one has been vaccinated or is immune. A new order of things and a change to life as we currently know it.".

Also saw Coathanger16's "I'm happy to forego a summer holiday this year if it helps stop the spread of Covid. Not convinced I'd be happy to lose next years summer holiday as well." Hope you get away this year sometime!

Gibraltar is finally back :)

Eastern Airways has today launched its new service to the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. This marks the operator’s return to Birmingham Airport as well as the popular route, previously served by Monarch.

This new Gibraltar route re-connects the Midlands with this green list destination, located on the Iberian Peninsula with a twice-weekly service, year-round. As the UK’s second largest city, Birmingham will be linked again to Gibraltar after a 4-year hiatus to provide connectivity for both the business and leisure markets.

The service will be operated on the airline’s Embraer E-Jet fleet with all fares including a 15kg hold baggage allowance as standard and if you book together, you sit together providing some peace of mind at no additional cost. For the lowest fares, book directly at www.easternairways.com.

Roger Hage, GM for Eastern Airways, said:

“What a welcome sign of summer and return to enjoying the sun in the Mediterranean this first service from Birmingham to Gibraltar marks. Being on the green list of destinations with a wealth of quality hotels, beaches, water-sports and heritage, this British Overseas Territory offers an exciting short-break destination aside from its role in UK business. Our work with the Gibraltar Government and the airports and tourism teams have enabled this new service to start and complements the service from Southampton, highlighting the pivotal role Eastern Airways (the UK’s regional airline) is playing in growing air services across all four home nations.” Vijay Daryanani MP, Minister for Business, Tourism, Transport & the Port for Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar said,

“We warmly welcome Eastern Airways new service, opening up another catchment area for Gibraltar. The service will be another boost to our tourism and business communities. We look forward to working with the airline on more opportunities for the future.”

Tom Screen, Aviation Director for Birmingham Airport said:

"It is great news to have Eastern Airways as a partner airline at Birmingham Airport again offering customers the chance to fly direct to Gibraltar. The route has been unserved from Birmingham since 2017 so we are delighted to add this to our choice of destinations, once again, for our customers. Gibraltar, with its status on the green list, is a popular destination to our leisure customers, for a sunny getaway, but also an important business route providing access to this British territory. We look forward to working with Eastern Airways to offer customers more destinations direct from their local airport.”.

“Both Birmingham Airport and Eastern Airways have a full enhanced cleaning structure in place and can reassure customers that their safety if is of paramount importance.”

Great news that Gibraltar is finally served again, I hope that they are able to maybe add more frequencies in the future.

I also see Eastern as one of our only hopes currently to take on some of the smaller French region destinations such as Rennes, Nantes, Brest, Limoges, Biarritz etc. They are offering RNS and NTE from SOU so I hope BHX are in dialog with them to hopefully return some of those destinations in the future.

The even better news is that GIB is year round and bookable throughout the winter :)

I really hope so, plenty of potential there.

Noticed on the inbound eastern used their recent edition E190 but on outbound to GIB they used the E135. Anyone know the reason?

Bit of a mystery. The E135 positioned in from Humberside and out to GIB. The E190 arrived from GIB and positioned out to SOU. Possibly a tech issue?.

I was told it was as the number of passengers you could count on one hand, doesn't sound good.

Fares are high and customer's do not know the "Eastern Airlines" name.

One for Squeezyjet me thinks, and no thanks to Flymaybe on a Dash 8 with supersonic turboprops, he he he he

That is one of the problems I find with eastern. Their pricing is way off and can be expensive even for a domestic flight. Aswell as the airlines name doesn’t seem to be familiar with many such as an airline like Jet2 or Ryanair.

Crewing. They had an E170 charter from HUY to DND and so needed both sets of E170/190 crew that day - one to fly the SOU-GIB-BHX-SOU and the other for the charter. The E135 was used for the afternoon BHX-GIB-SOU instead.

From next month, they've changed the timings so the SOU-GIB-BHX is on Thu/Sun, the aircraft overnights BHX and the BHX-GIB-SOU part is on Mon/Fri. Takes one crew over two days instead of two crews on one day to fly it.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
