Who knows that is the real question.

I'm surprise we've not had any Conservative Politicians, from the area, write to Robert and say "erm ... get a move on sunshine".

I know if I was a local conservative MP I'd be certainly writing to him telling him just that.
You would make an excellent MP. You would be able to whip them all into shape and get them to make a decision ASAP with approval. What I see of your posts on here you would be able to put Greens/Sobels and others in their place for daring to talk bad about our local airport and publicly shame them for it ;)

By the time jenrick gets round to this it will be knocking on the doors of 2 years since the plans were first announced!

2 years? That's nothing.

From "announcing plans" to them being approved was 9.5 years for Heathrow T5!

Although LBA is a much smaller airport than LHR, we're also 20 years further on, with anti-aviation groups and the green lobby being far larger and more influential now than back then.

Consider also the governments view on aviation at the moment is very much that people shouldn't be travelling abroad - a view that I think frankly a majority of the population agree with sadly. What kind of message does approving a new terminal whilst discouraging people from travelling abroad send?

Yes its about planning for the future, but how many politicians do you know of that care what is going on in 5 years time?

Assuming its not to close to COP26, I think we may see some movement on this once travel restrictions have eased and its become acceptable to travel abroad again.

Whilst its good to discuss these matters with like minded forum members it doesnt really achieve anything. If you want to make a difference contact Stuart Andrew MP. He is consulted by the SoS so his opinion is critical.

If you want to make a difference, leave a message via his Facebook page or contact his secretary: [email protected].

Time for a bit of a cheer up!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p09nz7sr - the question was posed at 36 minutes.

This is a MUST LISTEN to recording of BBC's 'Any Questions' from yesterday. A question was raised about the airport, with very favourable replies from the panel. The programme was recorded in Glusburn (near Keighley) and on the panel were Lord Blunkett, Phillipa Gregory (A historian), Robbie Moore MP (local MP) and Henri Murison (director of Northern Powerhouse Partnership)

Those of you familiar with this programme will know that its followed the following day by 'Any Answers' in which listeners can email or phone in with their own views on the subjects raised in 'Any Questions'. I was expecting a GALBA spokesman to make a contribution but the whole programme was dominated by Covid matters.

Hope you enjoy this.

Alan

Shame I can’t watch as I don’t have an account but it’s good to hear the positivity especially from an MP as most of them are against it.

Sorry, should have made clear its BBC Radio 4. Its a national programme so plenty of exposure.

Its a formality to get a BBC Sounfds account, takes 2 minutes

Government Green Plan- looks encouraging.

BBC News - Carry on flying, says government green plan
Let's hope that in view of this, Robert Jenrick digs LBAs carbon neutral terminal plans out from the bottom of his in tray and approves it.

Green Party MP Caroline Lucas described the government's approach to aviation as "a flight of fantasy" that relied on technology that was still being developed.

Says she who admits to flying to the USA on occasions to see her son. She tried to justify it by saying that focusing on individual behaviour lets big companies 'off the hook' when it comes to climate change. Well, well; isn't what environmentalists do? Tell us as individuals not to fly unless of course it's one of their own.

No doubt GALBA has some of these 'do as I say not as I do' people amongst their membership.

Of course they will. Follow them around secretly and you’ll see. Sounds creepy I know but it will expose them to be hypocrites. They all have devices such as phones and computers etc maybe they should get rid of all them as they all use social media. If they are that bothered about CC then I suggest they practice what they preach. Rather than stopping an airport terminal which is better for our environment and better transport links.

I wish this mayor would push for RJ to get the plans approved she doesn’t seem as supportive as what the GM mayor is of Manchester Airport which is a shame really.

I once had an interesting debate with an environmentalist at an airport protest march (not re LBA) and made that very point to him about mobile phones which they all seemed to have. He said he wasn't aware of the emissions that manufacture and use of mobile phones created and said he would look into it.

We parted by my asking if I could expect to see him and his colleagues organising a protest march against mobile phones in the near future. He gave me a wry smile.

Pretty sure when J.F.Kennedy said he wanted to put a man on the moon in his 1962 speech, the technology required to do it was still being developed.

The technology for aviation to go carbon neutral isn't the problem, it's the lack of investment governments around the world have put forward. Current generation aircraft can run on a 100% blend of SAF which would result in a carbon neutral operation. For the industry itself to set up a SAF operation would take decades - with government investment it could be done far sooner.

The technology is not that far away. This needs ramming down the throats of the anti airport brigade.

United Airlines to buy 100, 19-seat electric planes from Heart Aerospace

July 13 (Reuters) - United Airlines (UAL.O) said on Tuesday it would buy 100 19-seat ES-19 electric planes from Swedish start-up Heart Aerospace, as the U.S. carrier eyes battery-powered aircraft for regional routes.

It is the latest in a series of such "innovation-related" announcements by United as major airlines come under pressure to cut emissions.

The U.S. carrier's venture funding arm said in a release it is also investing an undisclosed amount in the company with Bill Gates' Breakthrough Energy Ventures and Mesa Airlines.

United would not disclose the value of the order, which is conditional on the aircraft's meeting safety, business and operating requirements.

Mesa would buy an additional 100 ES-19s, subject to similar requirements, which can fly customers up to 250 miles.

The plane will enter service as soon as 2026.

Electric planes can make only short urban or commuter trips because of the size and weight of the batteries.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
