Yes, true, but Yorkshire is a big market too. There's 1.2m people in Leeds and Bradford alone, before you consider Wakefield, Harrogate, Huddersfield, Halifax, Castleford and further afieldRyanair initially came to Liverpool for the Dublin route, then Aer Lingus was kicked off it by the Irish Government and the same at Manchester for Ryanair on the Dublin route from there. After Easyjet started low cost in the North from Liverpool, Ryanair then followed them from Liverpool to European destinations. Liverpool does suffer from Manchester being close, but the NW is a big market and can support two airports easily. There is no Blackpool as well anymore.
The new terminal and the planned station will help attract more passengers, given the chance. The question is whether the Government will let it happen or once again favour the NW by blocking it.
