Ryanair initially came to Liverpool for the Dublin route, then Aer Lingus was kicked off it by the Irish Government and the same at Manchester for Ryanair on the Dublin route from there. After Easyjet started low cost in the North from Liverpool, Ryanair then followed them from Liverpool to European destinations. Liverpool does suffer from Manchester being close, but the NW is a big market and can support two airports easily. There is no Blackpool as well anymore.
Yes, true, but Yorkshire is a big market too. There's 1.2m people in Leeds and Bradford alone, before you consider Wakefield, Harrogate, Huddersfield, Halifax, Castleford and further afield
The new terminal and the planned station will help attract more passengers, given the chance. The question is whether the Government will let it happen or once again favour the NW by blocking it.

Not with Manchester over the hill !
BHX have the same issue and not even at 15m pppa yet despite being in the middle of the country and the best transport connections in the country !

Yes MAN really does gobble up other airports passenger figures! BHX always has surprised me though you would think it would handle more pax but like you say its the MAN effect! LBA with its large population should be on at least 8-10million id say.
If RJ does ever give the go ahead for the terminal i feel we will be on a roll then up towards 5/6million and onto the 7million figure, from 7milion its back to LCC

Not just Manchester but Heathrow as well.

according to my sources, LBA-ALC has been binned from Ryanair, W21.. quite a surprising move but they didn't have the best times on the route due to ALC based AC.. I would be shocked if we didn't see this back for S22 and beyond.

Im gobsmacked by that, me and my parents need this route, guess its just jet2 then now! Im sure it must be their most popular route from leeds?

I would say I bet Jet2 respond like they did for TC/ZB demise. Double daily over weekend. Sadly Rhona and the idiots running the asylum won’t warrant a response.

Yep its a shame, seems a real shame they have dropped it. I believe the loads are always good, even with the cr*p timings. hopefully it will return. bet it is has been a very very very long time since we have had one operator on LBA ALC

Just been checking jet2 alc flights in jan/feb time and currently there is some good deals, bet these will now go quick. Least with jet2 I've found there is less flight alterations than ryanair.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
