We don't see enough of it to complain about it.

I don't care, it's still too hot. It was reading nearly 30c in my shop this afternoon!

We're British. It doesn't matter what the weather does, we're not happy!

Indeed! It's too hot, it's too cold, it's too wet, etc. etc.

 

High temperatures predicted for today especially in the south east and east of the country. There are 'heat-health alerts' in place until Friday.



Please, stay hydrated and be thoughtful of your neighbours, especially if they are elderly. Other than that, enjoy the summer weather but don't stay out in the sun for too long. I remember having heat-stroke as a kid (playing Cricket in the local park on a blisteringly hot day) and it's not nice!

I've seen some of the articles that are just crazy. And today on twitter someone said Government should legislate to ensure all pubs have a % of their pub gardens in the shade at all times. What happened to old fashion common sense of - if your too warm/want shade, go inside and stop winging.

The GFS models are in and its looking more and more likely we're going to see temperatures in the mid 30s next week.

 

Just seen that the heat wave is expected to peak next Monday. I'm finding it too hot today.

It’s all gaslighting all this. You can see it clear as day, same with covid, language to provoke fear, disaster, etc etc. imagine if this generation of journalists lived in 1976. Jesus Christ.

Let us live in peace and look after our own health. If your too warm outside go in, drink plenty, know the fine balance, and don’t over do it.

We get a proper warm summer for about 2 weeks every summer. People need to appreciate this rather then moaning and not listen to the press.

As for the news on wildlife fires. I simply don’t understand why we, as a country, ensure the areas prone to fires, get saturated enough to prevent fires. Instead they just act shocked every year it happens. In the same place when it’s warm.

Rant over. Enjoy the sun, plenty of rest and plenty of shade, ensure your properly hydrated, but enjoy it. Ignore the news, ignore the government, ignore the “experts”.

 

I was 12 years old in 1976 and remember the heatwave well. Looking online, it appears that there were 15 consecutive days where the temperature reached 32C or higher. What I do remember, is that our village pond (which we called 'The Pool' and was about 200 metres away), totally dried up and it's base was just dried, cracked mud. The Government of the day, appointed a 'Minister of Drought'. That night (or very shortly after), the heavens opened and the next morning, 'The Pool' had flooded it's banks (along with flooding across the country). Probably the most effective Minister ever appointed.

You obviously are still a "spring chicken" to remember things that clearly. I hate to say it but I my memory is starting to go more frequently than I like to admit! Thank you however for both your contribution and also for sharing your memory of the time. I must admit that at the moment I am more concerned about a conifer in the front garden that has started to turn brown - whether that is due to a lack of rain or, more likely, a disease I'm not certain - hopefully the former as, if we loose it then there will be a big gap in our garden "privacy" screen.

Yes I remember it we had a water bowser in our road everyone just got on with it no global warming just jeffing hot.The Minister of Drought was ex football referee Denis Howell who immediately bought in a red Indian (how un PC is that) to perform a rain dance and it promptly poured down for days so he was then made Minister for Floods !

Anyway it's only a few months to winter when we can all be told to wrap up warm and add extra layers blah blah blah because we're thick.

Climate change is happening I believe its part of the earth's natural cycle more than human actions as after all we are just a tiny part of the planets history which has seen many radical Climate events hot and cold.

I agree. The thought was 'this is what we've been dealt, we'll just get on with it'. This was just 30 years after the end of WW2, so many people were still aware of the hardships they faced then. A heatwave and water shortage, by comparison was nothing. Today, it seems that the younger generation want everything done/decided for them.
It's the same in the winter. A dusting of snow makes the headlines and company bosses are outraged that they have lost 'man hours' to the weather. Into my early twenties, we had far more snow than we ever get now. I regularly remember the snow coming over the top of my wellies (where I lived was about 760ft above sea level). I can even remember going for a driving lesson in 6 inches of snow. It didn't stop us.

The BBC weather website is forecasting 40C on Monday for my postcode in Cambridgeshire. It's also forecasting 39C for Tuesday. The highest temperature ever recorded in the UK was 38.7C on the 25 July 2019. Will have to wait and see if it really reaches those levels.

Local to me the temperature for Leeds Bradford Airport is showing 36'c and 37'c for Monday and Tuesday. Leeds City centre is usually always a couple of degrees warmer throughout the year so 38'c or 39'c could be on the cards.

I remember a holiday about 20 years ago to Gran Canaria where they were experiencing a heatwave that had drifted in from the Sahara. The multiple temperature displays around the resort were showing 48'c during the day and 30'c during the night. We would wear t-shirts and a hat in the pool because the sun was blisteringly hot with the shade feeling little better.

 

Well I hope you also wore some swimming trunks.

 

Not so extreme for my forecast on Monday, with highs of 27c and a low of around 20c. I really feel for my grandparents in Southampton, their highs will be around 30c, with the lowest being around 25c

 

The Met Office has just issued a Red warning for extreme heat for Monday and Tuesday for much of central England extending from London through to Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester.

 

Meanwhile, it's an amber warning for Cornwall. Time for a siesta?

A number of posts have been deleted which have left my recent post to appear to be rather out of context. I've now deleted mine as well.

 

I know it sounds stupid but I wanna experience this 40 degrees heat in the UK cause we always say when its hot here, it is different to when it is hot on holiday.

Why is that ? Is it becouse we are an island surrounded by cool waters so when its hot, it feels humid ??

Yeah I know, i'm really stupid, however this is potentially an historic event, maybe not to be seen for another 100 years, or maybe due to global warming it will be an annual event ??

Even my Canary Island palm tree won't like this, I have kept it alive and growing through x 2 British Winters only to get killed by extreme heat. And it's a palm tree but only 3 years old so it is still quite small.

Will need to water it alot between now and Wednesday as its in a full sun position, it will be around 45 degrees + in the direct sun on Monday/Tuesday
