Whilst at work this afternoon the guys had Capital (Yorkshire) playing on the radio.

It was good to hear KLM advertising it's Amsterdam routes to both Leeds/Bradford & Humberside, along with mentioning it's connections to over 160 worldwide destinations.
My son is going to Krakow with school (Calder High near Hebden Bridge). Strangely they’re flying from LBA and with KLM VIA Amsterdam outbound.
Most parents are asking why, I’m just quietly pleased they’re using LBA when really Manchester is nearer and easier for us

Think that goes some way to supporting the mentality of people that only think MAN, MAN, MAN before even remotely thinking anywhere else, so good on whoever decided on the trip being from LBA - whatever factor(S) helped them come to that decision. Might go some further way towards self advertising for LBA - especially if the trip goes without a hitch

Personally I would challenge the idea that Manchester airport is easier to get to from Hebden Bridge. I do enough journeys two an throw between Sale near Manchester Airport and Yeadon to know Manchester is most definitely the airport that is a pig to get to. That goes for anywhere east of house in the middle of the M62. I can't argue about it being a reputation LBA could do without though.

But if there are far more destinations from MAN, better schedules and often lower fares, why would people not choose to go there? I have not been to MAN for many years, but motorway and public transport access there is far better than LBA or LPL. Airlines are not terribly interested how easy it is for passengers to get to an airport as long as they get that business. Airlines are just not going to move operations from a larger airport like MAN to LPL or LBA.

The WB M62 has so many hold ups and delays it ought to be called Dirty Harry...because when you get on it you have to ask yourself now do I feel lucky??

Being Calderdale born and bred, from Mytholmroyd where CV High is, it is 50/50 on which is easier, as you can go over the tops to either airport. Specific to MAN, You can avoid the m62 totally and join after Ashton UL if you stick to the A road which does work. My nephew lives in Cragg Vale, Hebden Bridge and commutes daily to Preston and is wife to Warrington and they don’t have many issues as they join after the main problem - Milnrow to Ainley Top. The other side of Calderdale where I live now, it is definitely easier to LBA.

Replying to several comments on here (sorry, just got back from a long but happy day in Newport!), I’d be amazed if school havent just gone with the cheapest option. They will have been minimising costs for parents I’m sure (still £780 for three days / two nights).

Not saying it doesn’t surprise me if KLM were the best value option, of course.

Personally I much prefer the drive to Manchester Airport from here in Calderdale, and working in Salford I’ve luckily never had any serious difficulties navigating the M62

Probably another faux Pas by the LBA arrivals but today (and tomorrow) our lunchtime flight from AMS has a flight number KL001. How did that happen??
And yes, the outbound is showing as KL002. These are surely flight numbers dating back to the very beginning of KLMs existence, and as the world's oldest airline, that's a good while.
If correct, should we feel honoured to have these flight numbers, even if only briefly!

The WB M62 has so many hold ups and delays it ought to be called Dirty Harry...because when you get on it you have to ask yourself now do I feel lucky??
I work in the Seaforth Docks area of Liverpool and from there to go to Manchester Airport, i need to leave 2 hours to feel sure I can get there in time because of traffic on M62 / M6 / M56. Forget the train, Northern is so unreliable its not worth chancing it. I pretty much always use Liverpool Airport, its so much easier.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
