It has everything to do with (but not exclusively because of...) Brexit - Pax levels between the UK and Eastern Europe has continued to fall ever over those very 4 years since Brexit came into force....

Of the 5 largest Eastern European populations in the UK, pax levels between 4/5 are down, with growth only seen in 1/5 (Romania)... a comparison of Feb 2019 and Feb 2023 being a casing point.

UK– Poland (Feb 2019): 598,000 pax
UK – Poland (Feb 2023): 573,000 pax (Down -4.2%)

UK– Romania (Feb 2019): 226,000 pax
UK – Romania (Feb 2023): 254,000 pax (Up +12.4%)

UK– Lithuania (Feb 2019): 88,000 pax
UK – Lithuania (Feb 2023): 74,000 pax (Down -16.0%)

UK– Bulgaria (Feb 2019): 131,000 pax
UK – Bulgaria (Feb 2023): 126,000 pax (Down -3.8%)

UK– Hungary (Feb 2019): 171,000 pax
UK – Hungary (Feb 2023): 143,000 pax (Down -16.4%)

Matter of fact, since Brexit Pax levels between UK and eastern Europe are slowly dropping. Yes Covid will play a role, as will the Ukraine war, but pax levels had already started to drop before the start of the Ukraine War. As for Covid, both Poland and Hungary have aviation capacity higher than 2019 levels, but both have a significant drop in UK pax levels.

For god sake brexit happened years ago can people ( mainly remoaners) stop banging on about it, it happened.

If the EU was that enticing 52% wouldn't have woken up the bureaucrtic unelected car crash it was and is !!

UK plc will be just fine , we just need a competent government !

Brexit happened years ago, as did covid, as did the global financial crisis, as did Sept 11th …ALL of which (and others factors) will have had major and long lasting impacts on global aviation trends across the world, but just because they have happened doesn’t mean we are not allowed to talk about them and their ongoing impacts!

I’ll happily stop talking about “it” when brexiters admit that stopping the “free movement of people” from our closest and nearest economic block just MAY have impacts on the number of people travelling!

I’ll stop talking about it when it stops effecting us!

Another factor could be the new border controls due later this year. For that reason our family holiday is Scotland, by car.

Anyway, shame to be losing WIZZ even though they are not the best service.

UK PLC is a joke, and I predict UK PLC will still be a joke after circa 8 years of a Labour Government, if they win.

Ooooops I fear the thread is being derailed and the Mods will soon be lining up to pounce :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:;)

TBH, given that reduced immigration from Eastern Europe was sold as one of the key objectives of Brexit you can't be surprised that some of those routes have topped out and are now dropping off a bit, although interestingly, Romania is still growing.

You could read into that anyway that countries like Poland and Lithuania are now, relatively speaking, have stronger local economies than than when free movement was new so the opportunities to earn more money in the UK v Poland for example are now diminished.

To see the whole picture I'd be interested to see if there are corresponding upticks in inflows from other places such as the Philipines and Africa where the incentive to come to the UK may now be greater. The NHS in particular has looked specifically to these regions to recruit.

Wizz air Frequency winter 2024/25

Budapest-2 weekly
Bucharest-5 up from 4
Craicov-3 weekly

10 weekly flights

I still understand why they removed Krakow from its system even though easyjet are operating it this winter.

Anything is possible with Wizz be it plus or minus, they are concentrating on LGW at moment
They’re probably even more changeable than RYR on routes

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
