Will be sad to loose all airbridges on T3. Suspect will all go on T1 in time.....Inc Pier B. Going to look pretty shabby and definitely low cost! Let hope after Pier 3, the next transformation project looks at rebuilding T1 and T3??

Why sad? T3 will be Ryanair only who don’t require airbridge’s and it will create some more room during the boarding.
Pier B only has two airbridge’s which will remain for now.
Pier C will remain for as long as easyJet remain in T1, there is no other possibility of boarding otherwise.

Yes indeed! Let’s hope pier 3 is signed off!

Not until they have completed a large apron extension as first priority, please!
Where is that apron expansion going to be though? Out of space, unless all western apron sheds and RVP go!!

I guess sign of times, low cost travel, is not that fun, bit rough n' ready! Facilities also the same! Air travel gone retro grade!

Maybe I should be smoking the same stuff as you!
There is nothing retro grade about travelling with Ryanair or easyJet through low cost travel.
I don’t understand what you expect…it’s low cost airlines and travelling with them gets you from A to B safely and within a good budget.
So what’s so rough n’ ready about that?!

Evening all,

Initially bridges on 41-43 will be removed however there’s currently no exact timescale for this.

As for stand re-configuration, stand 50 was re-configured late last summer to enable up to 7M8 ops - stand was previously max E175.

Stand 18 will be removed (currently used for storage of snow equipment). This will allow the re-configuration of stands 16 & 17 to allow 2x B737 to park on those stands. Currently, stand 17 is used each evening with the aircraft currently parked non-standard causing the diversion of an airside road and the closure of neighbouring stand 16 so is not optimal.

Over at T1, stands 29/31 will lose an airbridge (both currently have 2 bridges), the stands will be re-configured for code C aircraft, this will allow the opening of taxiway Delta and a re-aligned taxiway Echo - these are the two parallel taxiways that are planned to open early summer.
As previously posted, most of the lighting has already been installed for the new and re-aligned taxiways.

In the middle we will lose stand 82/235/237 for the new taxiway servicing the southern side of the new pier. MAG are calling this the ‘central gyratory’. As for taxiway November-Alpha, this will be widened in April with the addition of Blue and Orange lines - almost identical to taxiway Zulu (the taxiway behind pier 1). This will allow 2 code C aircraft to pass each other in the cul-de sac and reduce the number of pushback delays.

The former stand 205 (an equipment bay since 2017), will re-open as stand 305 albeit without an airbridge - code C stand.

As for biometrics, works are completed at both A3 & B3, further works are ongoing at B1/5/7 & A5/7 with works on A11 to be completed in early March. For arrivals signage is now up to direct passengers to the biometric arrival gates - these are however still behind hoardings.

As for long-term, west gate security is to be moved backwards towards the fuel farm and the sheds 300 & 301 will indeed disappear to accommodate more remote stands.

Thanks for another very informative post @CCGE29

Any news concerning the future plans of T1/T3? Chris Woodruff himself stated last month there would be an announcement soon but it just feels like there is no definitive plan or timescales, which sounds mad!

Not a priority for the airport I’m sure, but it would be good to see the Manchester sign above T2 legacy actually have all the lights on the lettering in working order 🙏

It’s been broken for a few years now. If only those in the ivory tower came downstairs from time to time.

I don't think the monies for the transformation project really touched the surface! Need another billion or 2, to build piers 3 and 4, rebuild T1 and T3 and demolish Pier C!

The proposed U.S customs pre-clearance never happened because of covid I hope the airport revisit that in the next couple of years. T3 just needs alterations to check in and departures, I would expand the check in hall and then add a mezzanine above check in creating an expanded departure lounge similar to T2.

Waste of time now and with Trump in charge I don`t think it is worth the paper it is written on

Passing through T1 today and noticed that well over half of the main T1 security area is boarded off for new scanner installation.
Only belts 1-5 were available to use.
Main level check in and security feels so dead with EasyJet downstairs currently.
Chatted to the duty manager of the Emirates lounge who informed me that their new T2 lounge opening is pushed back to November…..
Sounded more like a delay to their own lounge fitout than anything wider as confirmed they would be the very last airline to be switching terminals.

Any predictions for developments after Pier 2 opens? In terms of T1 and T3, apron space etc?
I appreciate that you are very keen, and eager, to see more development but I can only refer you to @CCGE29's excellent post #1724. I doubt that you will see any further development news for the next few month.
I'm sure that, as soon as any information becomes available, it will be posted on this forum.

I'm still intrigued what the timeline is for west gate shift = 3 remotes, and the removal of the cargo sheds fir more remote. Is the latter just aspirational or in the plan?

I don`t UK government is very keen on US carrying weapons in terminal and also the huge cost and inconvience it would cause

Thanks for the info.
I’m looking forward to using these new scanners, as when flying out of MAN I find myself mostly in T1 or T3 so will be glad to finally be able to leave my liquids and electronics in my hand luggage!
Now we just need the governments of the UK and EU to sort out the problem regarding the allowance of more than 100ml of liquids 🙏

I imagine easyJet will move back into the main check in area once other airlines have transferred over to T2.

Unsure ref the west gate relocation and the three new code C stands, probably after phase 2 is completed I assume…
It’s been confirmed the current operator’s of the cargo sheds will vacate during the spring and then demolition can begin, I think once the new dual taxiway system is operational which is expected by the summer.

not quite sure what you mean on weapons, but if you are saying CBP officers want to be armed and this would be a major sticking point, then i think you need to look at other places where there is pre-clearance. Both in DUB and SNN CBP officers do not carry weapons - so clearly it is possible.

Because US security staff were required and they were to be armed inside the security area

Because US security staff were required and they were to be armed inside the security area

As noted above, they are not. In other pre clearance areas for other countries outside the US (eg Ireland) the CBP officers are not armed. So I don’t understand where you are getting this incorrect information from.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
