Leeds Bradford: Weather & Technical Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
If they didn't have the new LGW base to find a/c for, with the rising cost of fuel it wouldn't have surprised me to see all the 733s go this year at end of S26. That said, if S27 demand slows as a result of ongoing geopolitical circumstances then I would never say never re the 733s, especially as I do agree they seem to be causing increased problems
Spirit Airlines had 95 A320’s and A321’s….plenty of aircraft sat around.

Anything is better than the 300’s… I would have thought their newer ones will have been NEO’s

Mostly NEO’s

However they are powered by the PW GTF engines which Jet2 have avoided. The well documented issues with these engines appears to have been one of the problems leading to the demise of Spirit.

Jet2 B737-800 G-JZBV has overnighted at Larnaca Airport due to a tech issue. Due into LBA this evening 19:35ish

Meanwhile Jet2 A321 G-HLYA is once again returning to LBA positioning in from Manchester as EXS048A at 08:00 to do the LS251/2 Faro flights

Jet2 B737-800 G-GDFP will position back from Bristol as EXS049A after covering a flight to bring stranded pax back from Funchal.

I'm going to place this here, as I feel that the thread followers are the best to provide an answer.

I use FR24 for my movements logs, however I do have problems with certain aircraft. For example A321 G-HLYA seldom shows a flight number and, when I switch to Flightaware I get very few reports.

What system do you use to obtain details? For an example G-HLYA positioned MAN-LBA yesterday as per this thread #1648 as, apparently, EXS048A but yhat flight number does not show on either FR24 or Flightaware.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The A321 G-HLYA positioned into LBA this morning, not yesterday ( as per #1648). Were you looking at the wrong day?

Not sure if this is the issue you're facing, but it's worth a shot anyway

Non-scheduled flight numbers such as, for example, EXS048A or RYR9898 which have both been seen here in the past couple of days, don't show up on Flightradar for the flight number search. They will show up for the airport arrival/departure page (speaking of which, is absolutely abysmal since they made the changes), or the aircraft log

Also, as Heather has said, the LBA-MAN EXS048A was this morning. There was, however, an LBA-MAN EXS048A rotation yesterday morning also done by G-HLYA

I believe it's because the hotter the weather the less lift is created, or something like that so they will be using the increased TODA that a 14 take off run provides. I am no technical expert though so happy to be corrected or for someone to give a more detailed technical explanation

I believe also as there are no obstacles/terrain off the end of 14, I seem to recall the highest point off 14 if you flew level was in Germany? Could be wrong!

And far as im aware when the wind is calm at night runway 14 is prefered for the inbound flights due to them passing over less populated areas rather than flying over the urban areas of leeds.

The rawdon billing hill is the highest point west of moscow with nothing higher between the two!

Thats basically it.

Moscow however isn't in a straight line off 14! Be interested if anyone has any topography info on that heading, flying at airfield altitude what is the nearest obstacle/terrain

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
