Given Singapore Changing is constantly voted one of the best airports in the world, maybe BHX have asked for some hints and tips?

This evening Iwas talking to a recently aquired Jet 2 pilot who is to be based at EMA,
but who has already applied to transfer to their new BHX base when it starts (no date
given) He has previously worked for Ryanair so is going to fly 738s for them
interesting. So it's confirmed that Jet2 are to set up BHX operation?

It is indeed very interesting, and adds a few more pieces to the jigsaw puzzle that may be emerging.
However, nothing is confirmed until there is an official announcement.
To this end, I think we should refrain from questions such as 'so it's confirmed that Jet2 are to set up BHX operation?'
No one here has an answer to that, and we wont know, until we know.

Thanks very much for the info Steve.

I think it's right not to get excited until an official announcement is made but I have a good feeling about this one.

I reckon Jet2 would be great for Birmingham and I could see them doing very well indeed, there is plenty of room for them.

I don't know about anybody else but I've had enough of rumours now, I want announcements

Interesting, as this is the third case I've heard about (this week alone) of pilots coming back from EK 777s to fly 73s in the UK.

I spoke with the same Jet 2 pilot last night and he told me they had 30 738s on order of which 24 had been
allocated leaving 6 not allocated to a base yet. He said to put money on Jet 2s next base to be BHX, the only
other option was CWL but he thinks that this has now been discounted. He reckoned on a time scale of approx. within 18 months

I have copied your latest post to the Cardiff Jet2 thread in order to update that. Many thanks.

Well, whilst it's from a similar source, it's still promising! Even a 2 aircraft base (738s) would deliver upto 800,000 pax annually so any sort of base, no matter how small to start off with could have amazing benefits to BHX!!! Just a case of playing the waiting game

I can see them starting with two aircraft and adding more as deliveries happen.

I'm not sure what time period the new 738's are to be delivered over?

Obviously not confirmed but i always did have a feeling that if Jet2 were to announce a base in the SW England/Wales that it would be Cardiff rather than Bristol.

Cardiff is crying out for investment and new routes and it still serves the BRS area. And they have the welsh government behind them too.

But anyway back to Jet2 at BHX, they would be a very welcome addition to our operations. Come on Jet2, get them planes on Runway 15/33.

Deliveries of the aircraft will take place between September 2016 and April 2018.

It would be nice to get two based either this autumn or early next year, hopefully ready for more in 2018. If it happens that is.

Thanks Brum X. I have copied your post to the CWL Jet2 thread should anyone want to comment there.

I don't want to appear as 'Job's comforter'. but there is something about this rumour that doesn't add up to me. On the one hand we have had rumours of an airline 'recruiting' for a new base at BHX and posters then believing it might be Jet2. Then conversations with a pilot who adds strength to the rumour but then follows a little later with a view that it might be in 18 months time.

I hope i am wrong, but 2 + 2 in this instance does not make 4!

Richard, his point (the Jet2 pilot) is that they have ordered 30 new aircraft so it will take some time (possibly up to 18 months) to have them available. He did say to me "within 18 months"

Steve

In my view, if/when J2 started up, they would be looking to service high-density routes and gain market share from competitors.

I'm not certain, except for July / August, how the Palma / Alicante / Malaga etc. routes can support this and maintain profitability for other recent starters.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
