Does Lingus pulling US flights from Manchester bode badly for future LBA trans Atlantic potential, or is there something else at play there?
With tourism to US expected to fall further, LBA’s transatlantic ambitions will need to be kept in the drawer for now. I can see no prospect for BRS, BHX or NCL restoring links in the near future.

Not in my eyes no. There are far more other factors that will hinder that, not least the antics of our orange faced friend across the pond. One thing it may help with though is connecting traffic via DUB so could still very much be a positive

To my mind the limiting factor is the inability of Aer Lingus to offer reliable services between LBA and DUB. This will never be resolved until they start operating jets.

Whilst to some degree that may be true, the EI DUB frequency is hardly reducing so something must be working well. Not sure jets are on the horizon unfortunately

We flew back in to MAN yesterday morning on the overnight Virgin A330 from JFK. Although we were in premium it was plain to see the flight was nowhere near full. So if you see that VS rotate their A330 program between JFK, Atlanta and Bridgetown Barbados that suggests there isn't the demand for a daily service to any of them from 'Northern England', certainly not for a wide body, and granted it is January. This might be where the likes of JetBlue come in with their A321Neo's and 73Max and might be where LBA has a chance but of course the existing carriers will look at existing routes before any new routes get added.

From a BGI perspective January is part of peak season so suspect that does ok at this time of year but yes the other two may well struggle. One less carrier though will help the incumbent at MAN and not encourage anyone to start TATL at LBA. It will be interesting to see what Wizz do TATL wise but suspect LTN and BHX high on their agenda. Whichever way we look at this it is not a promising time for any new TATL ops, let alone ex LBA

Jet2 did EWR trips, that was in our life time... lets not rule anything out, its aviation, anything can happen.

USA is no doubt weak at the moment re Trump & how generally expensive the USA is. If i was LBA management I would be looking east starting at Turkish then further a field.

Leeds transatlantic - not in any of our lifetimes!
The predictable thing about the aviation industry is its unpredictability, so I don't think anyone can realistically say what will or won't happen decades from now.
The immediate reality is that with Aer Lingus pulling out of Manchester long-haul this spring, the 'Leeds option' just became a lot more attractive. Every passenger from our region who chooses LBA-DUB over a drive to Manchester strengthens the case for more capacity and better slots at our own airport. Direct transatlantic flights from LBA might be a long-term dream, but the shift in the North’s aviation landscape right now is definitely working in Leeds' favour.

But for US airlines, LBA would not be high in the list of priorities in UK. It is a previously unserved route. I think the departure of EIUK from MAN is irrelevant. Another airline will pick it up.

Or maybe other airlines will follow the lead of WestJet in that small is beautiful. The world has changed. Long haul might not always be reserved for wide-bodied aircraft from the hub airports, just maybe, in the future will see more realistic smaller operations supporting both the leisure and business community but potentially from new airports.

Thankfully due to the orange fella and squatter biden not in the white house we have very likely avoided ww3! At least the orange man has dialog with the so called rogue nations, also Illegal immigration into the US now nil, millions of criminal illegals deported and most US cities seeing huge reductions in crime thru the orange man, far as im concerned thats a great thing, but anyway..
VH did state in the last community meeting that their attention was more on links to the middle east rather than going west although to be fair anything would be nice atm as absolutely bugger all is happening!

Hahaha, how about the orange man and his cronies using severely degrading language and discourse about not only me, but many of my friends too, through multiple different categories? How about when he insulted many of my friends by telling vicious lies about the transgender debate? And you call his leadership great after all this, and his agency shooting 2 unarmed people? Get a grip!

This is before we get into the harshly divided state of the US right now. It used to be somewhere on my bucket list, but I certainly wouldn't feel safe there now, so no way will I be visiting it for years to come

Trump is damaging relations with allies, he has no concept of diplomacy- he is a narcissist and appreciates no one, other than himself. His vocabulary is worse than an adolescent child where English isn’t their native tongue. Great, big, brilliant - bad, terrible etc, has to repeat to try and sound relevant. He is a businessman, but unfortunately he is damaging his own brand - America. Like @YorkshireLad i too would not be travelling to the US at the moment. Tourism and travel in general to America has nose dived and the world view of them as a country has taken a massive downturn. Post Trump their government on an international front will have to build relations, and the American tourist board will no doubt have to work very hard to regain tourists.

Let’s pause the political side of this before it overtakes the thread and refocus on the aviation angle.

Recent data shows a note for drop in passengers travelling to the US. So, for those passengers no longer travelling to the US, what alternative destinations are they choosing? Europe? Middle East? Far East?

Not sure what you mean about Squatter Biden, he won that particular election. Not forgetting the appalling scenes by Trump supporters on the Capital Building, when the result was announced . I don't wish to political , but Trump is a narcissist who's main interest is himself. Lets not even mention ICE.

Wizz have confirmed today that their transatlantic applications are solely related to World Cup charters no intention of commencing scheduled services.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
