Intersting thought... All of the prior analysis for a direct rail link was done based on location of the existing terminal.
The new terminal is on much lower ground and much closer to the existing rail line.
Could it be that a shorter distance and lower gradient make a direct spur more viable now? Must be worth the council looking at...
It would also impact far less on existing Harrogate services.
I will ask but I doubt it is viewed as a more advantageous location! Although it is lower down than the current terminal, it is also considerably closer to the Leeds to Harrogate line yet still well above it. So any rail link will still need to climb out of the existing rail cutting up to the new terminal. The rate of climb from the existing tracks is no different. The line would be shorter, but no less steep. However, with regard to any Parkway Station the journey time from station to terminal front door would be halved approximately.@white_heather would you mind asking at the consultation if they will reopen dialogue with LCC about a direct rail link in light of the new more adventageous location?

Aviation Minister, Paul Maynard, said: Leeds Bradford Airport is the global gateway to one of the most beautiful parts of the world, so it is vital passengers get the world class service this new terminal will provide. The new building will be more sustainable and efficient, helping the airport meet its net zero carbon emissions target by 2023, while boosting the local economy and securing thousands of jobs.
