Does mean that Offint? Nothing has been officially confirmed, if it is delayed and the reasons don’t stack up, then I agree everyone can demonstrate negativity and have an opinion. However, at this stage it is far from fact.

Why all the fuss about the terminal extension getting put back (if confirmed)?? Surely, if they are looking at a bigger terminal extension, this can only be viewed as positive, as surely this demonstrates a greater ambition and need to think even bigger!! Too many projects in the past have been reactionary ‘bolt-ons’ as the need arises. This sounds like something far more pro-active if true.

Although a larger terminal would be welcomed, it is frustrating to think they can get all the way through the planning process to this point to only now decide the terminal needs to be larger, assuming that is what's happened?

Although hugely frustrating It's all speculation at this stage. @White Heather has already asked the question a short while ago so I suspect it will be difficult for her to ask the same question again. We need to wait and see if there are any further press releases regarding the proposed terminal extension before jumping to conclusions. Looking back through the previous press releases, the airport said the terminal extension would be completed for next summer. It is questionable whether or not they would actually be able to complete the work in time for summer 2020 even if the work was to recommence in Autumn as previously stated?

It’s great to think we may get a better extension however we need it asap the airport isn’t big enough for the pax anymore at all and it is obvious when using the airport. Also pax figures will remain flat for another year and airlines will loose interest as we are at max capacity.

Airlines do tend to be consulted during periods of expansion so their needs can be considered. It is possible they have said more needs to be done.

I do think maybe that if they called the gates earlier that might help as I didn't realise there were food outlets right next to my gate. Gate 8 in this instance.

I have written to the airport and asked the question, but haven't had a reply today - perhaps not surprising given the chaos there today due to the moronic activity of drone operators at Horsforth. I will let you know if/when I find anything out.

I am not sure who the 'contractor' was that said this - the main contractor for the terminal hasn't been selected yet! The airport said, only a couple of weeks back, that the terminal development was currently at RIBA stage 4, and whilst the final M&E design and costs were being pulled together the new LBA CEO was reviewing the design. One of the things mentioned was whether or not they needed additional belt capacity in arrivals - so more within the original building, not a bigger building. The proposed extension has been designed anyway to allow for further expansion in the future if required - spreading further down the side of the apron. It seems unlikely that even without a delay, the new terminal will not be ready for summer 2020 - more likely to be brought into use during the winter 20/21 I would think.

Yes and he is announcing a new route to Fez! The reason for my comment is that a certain Middle East airline, the one with Quick Reactions, not where Everyone's Young nor where Everyone's King, are looking to add two further UK regional departure points to their network in the next 2 to 3 years apparently

I was sat on a moor outside of Huddersfield yesterday and between 1345-1415 there was a very impressive ~12 arrivals. I have no idea how arrivals would of coped with such an influx so any potential delay to the terminal isn't great news regardless of our friends in the Middle East.

Agree this would be an absolute game changer but any one of those carriers would want to ensure LBA is on point. In the meantime I've seen a number of friends travelling from LBA over the past week on Social Media comment on how full and crammed the current facilities are so that's not helpful either as Social Media is very powerful. Theory here, is the updated enhanced business case being predicated on a big hitting airline and wisely the airport is not commencing work until it is absolutely sure it has it signed, sealed and delivered?

I was quite surprised about how small the departure lounge was the one after security from check in hall A. It was extremely busy.

Out of curiosityJerry, how does LBA compare space wise with Cardiff? Shops/facilities etc is there much different; bearing in mind CWL have the Qatar service

Back in my days of working at LBA I can recall a group of staff visiting LBA from CWL to train for OCS the then PRM company. They said they thought LBA was tiny and disorganised compared with CWL. I have no doubt they were spot on with what they said. LBA has changed again since then so possibly not quite as pokey as it was then but it's still too small for the job. In a world where money grows on trees it would be nice to see LBA bulldozed and a new terminal built. Whether that will ever happen is anyone's guess.

Floor space wise Leeds is bigger and has more outlets. Cardiff has beer house costa cafe Ritazza and wh smith in departures but they are in the 1 departure after duty free. Leeds felt more fragmented because of the duty free dividing the areas and some of it being downstairs. Because I didn't know about the rest my first impression was that it was small.

Thanks for the response Jerry. I tend to agree that anyone not knowing the airport may find it disjointed and therefore not get the fulI feel of the place. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoyed your LBA experience.

Yeah I did enjoy it and now know there is more if I use it again.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
