Funny how people moan about aircraft noise, I love it! Cant beat the sound of an airbus or a 757 returning from the med at 1am!
Apart from a passing freighter this silence we have at the moment is awful and boring!

I'd rather the noise of a few planes than the drunken students who make a racket in parts of Headingley at all hours.

So as a protest to any airport expansion these people will object to a perfectly reasonable airport proposal to build a new terminal that is offering a superior facility with net zero carbon emissions.

By default this could mean they end up with the current terminal building with inferior expansion that is already PASSED. The airport is unlikely to pursue further applications to replace the terminal or to expand knowing it is likely to be knocked back so only the inferior plans that are already in place will be possible. This is madness on a mammoth scale.

If LCC refuses the expansion proposed by AMP they still have an investment in LBA they need to protect and the only way I can see them doing that is by pursuing with it's inferior plans which will see a larger less efficient terminal.

LBA need to make the case for this clear as so many people think this is newly proposed expansion when in fact it's really just a replacement for already passed growth.

First off I hope you are well and keeping safe in the current climate



I am writing to you regarding the proposed new terminal at Leeds Bradford Airport



I used to work at Leeds Bradford Airport and left approximately 5 years ago, the current terminal was built in the 1960’s and has had many extensions over the years and in my opinion is well past its sell by date, looks out of date and shows Leeds and the west Yorkshire region in a really poor way, tourist coming here from overseas ( people love Yorkshire) must think what is this Tin Pot Airport. I no I traveled in and out of LBA as part of my job and in my words the Airport was an embarrassment to the region



Regarding the new terminal



All I can say is WOW why was this not done years ago, somebody has come up with this amazing environmentally friendly design that looks the part and that a city the size of Leeds and the West Yorkshire region should be proud of. The company that owns Leeds Bradford Airport ( AMP capitol ) are prepared to spend 150million on this development

Leeds City Council should be jumping at the chance to showcase the region with this development and new facility which will also be mischief closer to the proposed Rail Station



I no there is lots of mixed feelings around this development but this development is for the future of this amazing region that keeps attracting massive sporting events and loves to showcase itself on the world stage



People are saying including local MP’s that this will increase flights and the airport will expand, from reading literature the airport currently has planning permission to expand the current TIn Pot terminal and has permission to expand up to 7 million passengers per year up to the year 2030



If it was in my hands would you rather have a extension to a outdated Terminal or a brand spanking new facility to showcase the region, I no what my choice would be NEW



If the New Terminal gets rejected then I think Leeds City Council has made a massive mistake not just for now but for the future in the great Leeds and West Yorkshire region



Look at Manchester Airport who are spending over 1 Billion on expanding there Terminal 2, there Airport is part owned by Manchester Council who are forward thinking on there city, something I think the great city of Leeds falls behind Manchester in many ways( tram System comes to mind- build eel Leeds messes around)



It would be good if senior members of Leeds City Council came out in support of the airport and get behind their new modern once in a life time opportunity for a showcase facility

For interest and information as this is now publicly available. Link provided today by LBA as part of the information pack for the next Consultative Committee Meeting (which will be on line) and covers their environment brochure. Nice timing just before the Planners consider their verdict but I wonder what impact it would have made had it been available some weeks ago and widely published. I have little doubt ER would have rode all over it as is their destructive style.

I’d love to know how many of these academics drive polluting cars, take a cruise around the Mediterranean and attend a conference in Chicago. Total hypocrites. We all know that climate change needs to happen but to pin point a regional airport without looking at the serious contributions from other industries is ridiculous. I suppose these overseas students they teach row there way here and don’t jump on a plane, use technology flown around the world etc

Does Alex Sobel talk the most utter nonsense? I’m just glad he doesn’t represent my constituency with his views.

LBA Support Group – Statement on Leeds/Bradford Airport's Planning Application

The proposed plans for a new terminal for Leeds Bradford Airport make economic sense. The areas surrounding the airport will benefit from the construction of a new terminal at a time when jobs are most at risk because of the impact of Covid-19.

LBA serves two of the largest cities in the UK together with much of the wider Yorkshire region, yet it lags behind in 15th place by passenger throughput, being one of the smallest regional airports in the UK. It has spent many years trying to make up lost ground on competing airports, due to a combination of continual under-investment by its previous owners, (leaving Yorkshire's main airport reliant on dated and inefficient facilities originally built in 1965), together with operational constraints that are significantly more restrictive than at competing regional airports.

The terminal facilities, which have been enlarged via a succession of extensions over the past 55 years, are woefully inadequate. Previous plans for a major terminal expansion have already been APPROVED by Leeds City Council, enabling growth to 7m passengers per year by 2030 in accordance with the LBA Development Plan, and whilst this would improve the facilities considerably, this scheme does not fully address all the terminal's inadequacies, including disabled access and CAA security standards, nor does it offer carbon neutrality. The existing terminal is also further away from the proposed rail parkway station. This may result in fewer people using rail to connect to the airport and inevitably lead to more local car journeys.

LBA has for far too long suffered operational disadvantages over other regional airports such as Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Glasgow, which have combined together to restrict growth, and make it difficult to attract and retain airlines, in particular National Carriers or European airlines. Only KLM, operating to Amsterdam, has had a significant presence at LBA over an extended period of time

A substantial number of Leeds City Region air journeys, in particular those that are business related, are currently being taken from neighbouring airports such as Manchester, leading to unnecessary car journeys, traffic delays and greater CO2 emissions than would be the case if those same passengers were able to use flights available from LBA. The availability of such flights and the nearby location of the airport they operate into, is a key factor considered by businesses when deciding where to locate or who to do their business with in the UK. The absence of these flights to and from LBA, therefore negatively impacts on the Leeds City region's ability to attract investment and puts it at a disadvantage in comparison to other UK city regions.

The LBA Support Group understands that Leeds City Council has implemented a “climate emergency” policy and whilst we agree that we should commit to working towards reducing carbon emissions and becoming more green generally, this needs to be done at national and international level so that we can have a level playing field with neighbouring regions and, crucially, their airports. The CO2 emission target set by Leeds does not however, include aviation emissions, which are set nationally by Government, and any increase arising from growth at LBA will not therefore impact on the achievement of this target. Nevertheless, LBA is demonstrating a determination to drive down its own CO2 emissions by seeking approval for a terminal which will be Carbon Neutral (and BREEAM Excellent), providing LBA with a terminal matched only by Heathrow Terminal 5 for efficiency and its green credentials.

The aviation industry is committed to working towards net zero emissions by 2050. It must be noted that global CO2 emissions from aviation amount to 2%, whilst other sources such as fossil fuel heating, shipping, clothing manufacture, cement manufacture, road traffic and electricity production all account for a greater proportion of those global emissions. UK Aviation accounts for just 6% of the UK's total CO2 emissions with only a very small proportion of that originating at LBA. As such we feel the aviation industry is unfairly targeted generally, whilst LBA is currently being unreasonably targeted based on supposed 'growth' which in reality was approved 2 years ago. Meanwhile LBA's owners' attempts to significantly reduce emissions from the airport terminal to zero are being dismissed as meaningless.

If LBA is unable to pursue its plans for a state of the art green terminal, it has the option to proceed with the already approved, but inferior plans, enabling the same 7m passenger throughput by 2030, but with terminal facilities which will never be carbon neutral or meet all of today's exacting standards. Construction on that scheme was started, and can be continued at any time in line with Planning legislation.

This is a significant opportunity to accept the offer of private £150m funding from the airport owners to provide Leeds, Bradford and the entire region with an airport terminal that leads the way and sets the standards by which other airports will by judged in the future. We therefore urge Leeds City Council to approve this application and enable the economic recovery of the city and region in the post Covid 19 era, whilst at the same time, securing the future of its airport and the many jobs it supports.

It's protesters that ask do they can invent more nonsense to submit. It's worrying that the council are pandering to them. Had this ended on the original date there might have been more support than opposition but now, it's just giving them more time. It's like LCC are helping them out!
