Something seems rather fishy about yourself Fossil, not sure if you've come on here to cause trouble but you dont sound like much of a enthusiast. "Specifically this related to the greater use of widebodies if the new terminal was built, which conveniently would also keep down additional movements." not once has this ever been mentioned? ever.. I personally dont appreciate you coming on here with false claims, listening to too much Galba? or are you a member.. who knows.

in regards to LDA & angle degree, I personally can not comment and do not know, i'm sure the airport are the ones to answer that, but having been told numerous amount of times widebodies can safely operate out of LBA I dont see what's the issue. Fully laden.. a Emirates A380 out of MAN is not full laden, a TUI B787 to Orlando is not fully laden, chances are we wont have/need airlines operating fully laden widebodies.

there is only one trouble maker on here! :giggle: :giggle: anyway enough about myself! The runway length at LBA is no problem at all for widebodies, like ive always said the LDA could be increased esp on runway 32 if they would just move the touchdown point back to where it was pre extension, you would get at least an extra 300metres avai, but cost and the nimbys would be the problem with that. Also to note, i believe its around 75% of the time aircraft land and take off on runway 32 which is the better direction. But still no problem whatsoever landing runway 14 as remember the aircraft would be much lighter anyway through using most of its fuel en route.
LBA would never gain flights to the likes of the west coast of america or the far east as these aircraft would need to be fully laden but flights to the east coast of america or middle east is a certainty as less fuel is required and as we know fuel is a key factor in the weight of the aircraft, makes all the difference in fact. So to sum up a widebody flying to any part of the med, middle east and east USA is a certainty but any further than this would be a challenge.

another point to raise as well, through observation when ive viewed the aircraft at MAN airport most the widebodies that take off from there are not fully laden/loaded as they do actually lift off the ground the majority of the time where the narrow bodies do. you can see this on youtube vids for reference.

Apparently I know all this but I am keeping quiet!

I don't know of any occasion when a wide body would land on 14 fully laden, as fully laden includes a full load of fuel, and landing aircraft are usually doing so with only a relatively light fuel load. So not fully laden!

What I do know, is that wide body aircraft have landed on 14 in the past ( and I have photos to prove it). I also know what various LBA management team members have told me, which is that the 787 and A350 and 777 200 can operate from the runway as it is on the routes they are targetting. The A330 200 can too and has in the past. And of course the old types such as the 767 200/300, A300 and A310 have done so many times over the years.

The lack of wide body aircraft in recent years is down to the unwillingness of both LBA and airlines to operate them through a terminal that simply cannot cope with an influx of passengers of that size. Particularly arrivals.

The new terminal has been designed to change that and with the specific intention of enabling some wide body movements, The likes of Dubai and Islamabad and possibly New York are the targets, although the A321 long range variants mean that these routes may not necessarily operate on wide body aircraft.

Your post WH has saved me the trouble of pointing out (at length as I usually do) that it is the current terminal facilities (Border Control and Baggage Reclaim in particular) that are sadly lacking and are preventing larger aircraft from using LBA and not anything else.

That is why a new terminal must be built fossil. You also send very mixed messages in your posts which I find extremely strange and disconcerting.

Well whoever it is seems to know my history so must have been around the airport for some years.
For someone who has supposed to have been around the airport for years I find it very strange that fossil wasn't apparently aware of the dire limitations of the Border Control and Baggage Reclaim facilities. A couple of 738's landing at the same time caused problems and if a 757 were to arrive too then all hell broke loose. Need I say more?

Just out of interest what is the planned size of border control and the baggage reclaim in the new terminal? Any diagrams as curious?

I guess you should be able to make out how big the security area's, baggage reclaim & departure lounge are by using these floor plans.

Airport staff have been attending restart training i had one yesterday. The ceo said at best guess the new terminal would not start building until at least 2024 and then be stat to use at the earliest by 2026 2027, all down to money
They will have to start within 3 years even if it's just the foundations, otherwise the planning approval will lapse.

The schedule you have apparently been told though is to start when they should, according to all reports and the planning documents, actually be finishing. If there is this 2 year delay, I suspect the Council's intransigence over the demolition of the existing terminal may have something to do with it, as it has clearly forced the airport to re-evaluate it's somewhat leisurely vacation plan. Now they are likely to have to expedite the vacation which means also finding the funds for new admin offices, fuel farm, fire station and tower perhaps sooner than previously expected. Just a theory.

so the CEO is saying they wont start constructing the new terminal until at least 2024! this is just taking the p***! all down to money? we are talking about AMP here!
If true it's disappointing. A delay was inevitable given how long it took to get consent. We also need to bear in mind that the airport must have lost a fortune in the last 13 months. Other businesses in the AMP portfolio will also have suffered due to Covid so some revision to funding availability and resultant slippage is understandable, although starting when they were expected to finish isn't. It's almost as though they have revised a schedule based on a forthcoming public inquiry! Let's hope not.

perhaps the AMP funding is based on covid predictions? so basically there been cautious and waiting for when the airline industry picks up? personally id get on building it straight away so that it ties in at the point where air travel will hopefully kick off again which in my opinion would be a year or two down the line. sorry to say but my predictions at the start of the year about this year may be coming true to the point its affecting the LBA plans and AMP :(

Andy Clarke the Chairman said pretty much that in a media interview the day after the main planning meeting in feb. I’m sure they will want to see evidence that the COVID situation has gone away and then what state the industry looks like after that. So its not about a lack of money (they are a huge company) but a decision about when it’s sensible to commit to the investment

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
