Thank you for that excellent video, Jerry.

What's the name of the town/suburb about a minute into the video? It features a river and what looks like a lake.

It's Otley. A town that since 1974 has been effectively a suburb of Leeds. Immediately to the North of the town is the border with Harrogate District and North Yorkshire. The raised land immediately after is known as Otley Chevin which isn't far short of 900 feet above sea level.

I take it that's the Chevin that I've read so much about in the LBA threads down the years.

Jerry has done some super videos of landings and take-offs at a number of UK airports as well as overseas ones and they are on F4A as well as YouTube. They give a great feeling for what it's like coming in and leaving airports around the country not known to the viewer from personal experience. This one certainly does that for me as far as LBA is concerned, an airport I've yet to have the pleasure of using or even visiting.

Many thanks. I remember Otley Rugby Union Club from the pre-professional and pre-league eras of the sport going back to the 1960s and 1970s.

I've just checked and they are still going strong although slightly down the rugby pyramid these days.

Yes that is the famous Chevin which is the escarpment alongside the Wharfe Valley in which Otley stands. Ilkley is 5 miles further up the valley.
As Aviador has mentioned, Otley featured in Heartbeat with the old Magistrates Court being the Police Station. It also featured a lot in DCI Banks and Frost, plus several other TV series.
Of course an arrival on the SE runway 32 is a very different with the last 10 miles of the approach being entirely over the built up areas in Leeds.

To try and answer the question asked by The Local Yokel about the lake seen in the video I seem to remember, from the days when I traveled through Otley that there used to be a sand and gravel quarry which, if I'm right (doesn't happen very often these days memory being what it is), this may be the lake he was asking about. Like many old sand and gravel operations it has probably now been turned into some form of recreational use.

Loved watching this video of Wizz landing in low visibility at LBA. The aircraft stops incredibly quickly with no effort at all.

Very foggy landing back in January on KLM. I was surprised they were able to do it first time.
