Interesting that they are considering LBA as they have just upped their service from MAN. But I'm not complaining! it will be a nice little addition for LBA.

Yes, indeed I flew with good old Air UK to Guernsey back in August 1997. Went out on G-BNCY (F27)...delayed by 4 hours due to fog at Guernsey!!! Came back the following week on G-UKTE (F50)... delayed for 2 hours due to fog at LBA!!!!

Here's the route licence application that all but confirms that Aurigny have submitted to operate a year round middle of the day 3x-7x weekly ATR42, Guernsey - Leeds/Bradford service.

Beware the file opens in PDF format; http://gov.gg/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=94383&p=0

More interestingly is the fact they want to start operating in April 2016, next year with one-way fares rangeing between £49 and £220.

Umh - Malcolm Coupar. I wonder if it's the same person who was CEO of Knight Air all those years ago.

Jason 1-11. It was Malcolm DOBSON who was in charge of Knight Air, not Malcolm Coupar.

Seasiders post in the LBA Nostalgia Thread
The 4 x weekly GCI is an interesting one. If LBA could manage 4 a week to Guernsey back in 1970 is sure as hell should be able to nowadays. Fingers crossed Aurigny are successful in their attempt to serve Leeds Bradford Airport.

Vueling seem to have Leeds in their booking engine again, this time on the home page.

Unfortunately, no flights available yet, but, when you select Leeds, it only shows Barcelona, indicating they may be just one off charters as there are no connection opportunities like the scheduled routes.

One to watch.

OK guys and gals..ready for a good laugh???

I was in my local takeaway last night and out of the blue the guy behind the counter comes out and says " so what do you think to PIA coming back in?" I said " that's news to me". He then went on to say that they are starting up again before the end of the year.

So, make of this what you will!!!

Bigman that might make sense as PIA are under new management yet again and are looking at starting new long haul routes and recommencing others due to them acquiring 5x Boeing 777's due for delivery between now and December leased from Kenyan Airways and Vietnam Airlines.

Leeds-Barcelona now bookable on Vueling website.

2 weekly from 27th March, morning flights on Mon/fri.

That's great news about Vuelling. And if the rumoured Aurigny, Extrajet, FlyBe base and reinstated PIA flights all come to fruition, we would really be laughing next year. Might need to book some JCB's and concrete mixers the way things are going. Anyway....time to get back to reality!!

Fantastic news on Vueling, use them in Spain often. Can I suggest Seville, madrid and Granada from LBA, just to make my life easy.
Lets hope we see other airlines arriving. Hopefully oil dropping in price and one year futures around $50 a barrel, more route become economical

I have been thinking of giving LBA a hard time at tomorrow's Consultative Committee meeting due to the apparent lack of route expansion or new operators (when compared to what is happening at most other regional airports) and of course at the continued delay relative to the Masterplan and Infrastructure and now this comes up - I might have to tone it down - just a fraction.

Vueling is great if it is really true (or is this a dream?) but I just wish it was Madrid and not Barcelona. I am sure the demand is there but that is now 3 operators on that route! As for PIA - well the route was only ever suspended, a point I have made before, and LBA remained in their booking engine. RE 777's though, the crucial thing would seem to be whether they are getting 777 200's which will probably cope with LBA rather better than the 300 which might not cope at all.

The good thing about Vueling is that it could be the first of other routes so fingers crossed it all goes to plan.

Another point about Vueling is of course that it is owned by IAG, who also own BA and Iberia, opens up a lot of possibilities.

I've said it elsewhere but good news and It will be nice to see the lovely livery at LBA. Clever tactics from IAG after BA's domestic success cautiously interested in competing with the holiday market share, namely Jet2 but for now on a hybrid city/sun destination.

In terms of Madrid, Vueling don't have much of a presence there, so, if a Madrid link is desired, then Iberia Express (I2) is the one to go for.

They currently serve MAN/LGW/EDI/DUB-MAD as well as a handful of leisure routes from LHR (TFN and PMI IIRC)

Great news. This "non based" growth is exactly what the airport needs. A quick look at the July CAA stats suggests that the BCN route has further growth potential from LBA:

Manchester 32,754
Birmingham 25,429
Liverpool 23,201
Bristol 13,039
East Midlands 11,175
Leeds 8,982

You would think 15,000 - 20,000 / month is an achievable summer market from Leeds, given the numbers above.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
