C.P Air DC8/DC10 and B747 - Toronto,and Zoom B767 - Toronto+Vancouver,plujs I think it was Trans Ocean DC8 done a small New York stint in 89.

Many thanks for that. Zoom went bust in 2008 before it could really get its feet under the CWL table although early indications were very promising during the relatively short duration of its CWL presence (two years?).

I think it would be a consideration yes but I'm sceptical that TUI would potentially move Cancun and Orlando to CWL as I don't think it's guaranteed that the English passengers would follow. Maybe if they were looking at adding extra frequencies for the area?
I do think that APD might help more with a scheduled long haul airline like United or Delta?

In the 90s and early 'noughties' CWL had Florida and Caribbean summer services whilst BRS either did not or, when they did, usually had a smaller programme than CWL. CWL seemed to do well passenger-wise. I remember one August 10,000 passengers were carried on the Florida route on I believe three airlines with one a B747 - for a local company called Travel House?

Re your points about APD and long haul, although there is no APD on direct long haul flghts from Northern Ireland Belfast Int has no TUI long haul despite having TUI short haul routes. Its only long haul route that I can determine is the summer Virgin Atlantic to Orlando. There is no NYC route and the lack of APD was not enough to retain United on the route (to Newark), so............I don't know.🙂

It was a local Swansea firm Travel City which chartered a weekly Orlando flight in peak season, usually the school holidays and it was very popular. Wardair was another Canadian carrier that was popular several years ago.

There is a lot more choice today from other airports as well. In those days they probably charged the same from Bristol (for example), as they would have from Cardiff. Nowadays it could be a lot different.

TUI have cut the Thursday Gran Canaria reducing this route back to 1 weekly.
They have replaced it with Antalya, the Thursday flight will now be on a based aircraft. This results in a reduction of 1 weekly departure from 47 to 46 for the overall operation with 43 on based aircraft and 3 from non based aircraft.

It looks like the Thursday Faro won't be doing a W pattern with East Midlands. The Exeter aircraft will be doing that now. So that means there's a Thursday afternoon slot free. I've checked and they don't seem to have filled it as far as I can find.

Although I can't confirm this I've been told that Corendon Airlines will be operating both 1 weekly away based flights for Antalya and Dalaman on a 737 800. Also the Monday away based PMI is down as TUI so whether that could mean it'll be operated by an away based/W pattern TUI aircraft or as I suspect but hope not something from Monday will be shifted to the gap on Thursday so the PMI can be covered.

TCX dropped there BOJ flight for last year so this should be an increase from 2 weekly flights to 3 with BH Air.

Just checked next Monday’s flight only to TFS £298, return a week later £298, that’s £596 round trip. I can fly return to Australia, the other end of the world, cheaper than that!
What it will do is drive more and more people to fly from Bristol, perhaps that’s the end game.

It's the fact TUI aren't really a scheduled airline in the same way Ryanair are. They're a package holiday/tour operator that sells spare seats. I'm sure for less than the return price you quoted you could also have a hotel and hotel transfers if you did it as a package.

The problem with that is that TUI aren't a scheduled airline, they want you to buy the package and not the flight hence why the flight is so expensive. The reality is as well that without TUI Cardiff would not have any based airlines.

Talk to Santa flights on the BRS thread has made me wonder why TUI doesn't operate at least 1 from Cardiff? The demand is there as there's several flights from Cardiff and it's not like they only operate them from big airports as they operate 1 from Exeter.
