I am not sure about the Moss Lane spot that you mentioned, but if you would like any others for different aircraft/times of day please don't hesitate to ask. I highly recommend the RWY 23L threshold spot for mornings e.g. up to 1000/1030 and (in summer) after 1300 to 2000. It is superb and a real experience; definitely better than the RVP. The other spot is the Terminal 1 car park which is good for the renowned Terminal 2 line-up and watching ground operations.

Keep in mind that the B789 is only programmed on the early-afternoon Etihad until the end of February. The service could change back to A330-200 ops beyond that. Consider making a dummy-booking on the Etihad website for the date you're planning to visit. It should give you a reasonable idea of what aircraft-type to expect on the day. Hope it all works out well for you.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, as I'm very new to Manchester it all helps! I'm only going this month really to catch the Etihad 787-9, I think it looks stunning in the Etihad colour scheme, and have never seen it visit the UK before now. I have decided to turn up early on the day I do go, so I can have a look around at the various spots and decide where is best. This will include the Moss Lane spot as recent photos suggest it is worth trying, but will also bear in mind the advice on this thread too.

Many thanks!
Leo

I visited Manchester viewing area on 24/10/18, and found it very intresting. I came by train to terminal one, then used the shuttle bus to the viewing area. I know there must be other areas were watching the movements around the perimiter of the airfield. I just dont know how to get there. I need to know which bus to catch to vist other viewing areas from the airport bus terminus. One area I have heared of is the airport pub. I do not know the area well so need local knowledge from fellow spotters. Also are ther any other good spotting places in the airport were I can see the aircraft and take photo of them. I am planning a trip to the airport in the next three months. Please help with information.

David.

Hi Airfixpilot and congratulations on making your first post on F4A.

I'm afraid I'm not the best person to ask about the spotting locations, although I am aware of a number of places on the south side of the airfield, but I'm uncertain as to how to get there on public transport.

I can however help with regards to the airport pub. This is situated at the holding point for 23R. Start from Terminal 3 and walk to the northeast keeping the remote stands to your right. This will take you down Ringway Rd with surface car parks on your left and a concrete blast wall on the right. A 10 minute walk will bring you to the pub which will be on your right.

Enjoy your visit and hopefully other members will help with answers to the other spots.

Thank you Scottie dog. It would be helpful if I gave the exact day I was visiting, and would be able to meet a local spotter who knows the area. I think it would be worth his/shes worth a coulpe of pints, if I bought them. lol/ As I said it was My first ever visit to the airport, never mind manchester.

ps the Avatar is an Easyjet aircraft taken from the viewing area on 24/10/18.

Good Evening members.

I am wondering if anyone can help? Last October I visited Manchester airport for the first time, for a spotting day out. I came in by Transpennie Express from near Grimsby. I did enjoy the day out at the airport and viewing area. I did find out how to get to the viewing area by bus from the bus terminal. Now the next time I come across to the airport, I would like to visit more viewing spots around the airport. One I did hear about is The Airport Pub, near the runway. The problem is which buses run to the Airport Pub, from the airport bus terminal?.

Also are there any other viewing spots which I can get to from the airport bus terminal, bus numbers would help.

Thank you.

David

If you are reasonable fit and healthy, and the day is dry then can i suggest walking?

Go across to T3 and basically keep walking parallel to the runway - passing the remote stands that you can't miss. You'll have to cross the road to keep on pavements but it's only about a 10-15 minute walk.

I'll leave others to cone up with suggestions for buses.

Enjoy your visit.

Can you tell me if it’s possible to spot from level 13 multi storey car park at Manchester now. Any information would be helpful. Thank you

Welcome Antonov225 to F4A.

I'm afraid that I've not been up to the airport since the start of the pandemic. Maybe Land23R might come up with an answer for you if they're around.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
