Re-doing the USA/Caribbean maps as it appears I left a few routes off.

Shamelessly ripped from another forum:

new stats:

http://www.caa.co.uk/uploadedFiles/C...Statistics.pdf

MAN up to 23.02 million with a 6.3% growth in month which is ahead of background growth of 5.5% based on available airport data. 4% growth in movements so numbers carried per movement is continuing to go up.

STN growth now slowing to a mere 7% in month with 13.4% rolling. STN will go past MAN next year at current rates as they are at 22.37 million now.

Gatwick has gone past the 40 million mark on one runway which shows what can be achieved! Not sure if they had already surpassed this figure last month?

What chance to see significant growth in 2016. There are a load of new routes to open so if they are successful...

I've asked the same question in the Birmingham forum. Wondering how many capital cities are served by Manchester airport?

Hi Aviador,

I can do a list when I get home. Would you like the list to include the main airport for the country even if it's not the capital? For example, Iceland would be Keflavik instead of the capital?

Here's the MAN list:

London (British Airways(
Dublin (Aer Lingus, Ryanair)
Paris CDG (Flybe, Air France, Easyjet)
Brussels (Brussels Airlines)
Rotterdam/The Hague (Flybe)
Madrid (Iberia, Ryanair)
Athens (Aegean, Easyjet)
Helsinki (Finnair)
Islamabad (PIA, Shaheen, Air Blue)
Lisbon (TAP, Ryanair, Monarch)
Vienna (Austrian, Easyjet)
Zurich (Swiss)
Berlin SXF (Easyjet)
Rome (Vueling, Ryanair, Jet2)
Luqa (for Valetta) (Air Malta)
Ljubljana (Adria)
Warsaw (Ryanair)
Minsk (Belavia)
Oslo (Ryanair, Norwegian, SAS)
Budapest (Ryanair, Jet2)
Prague (Easyjet, Jet2)
Copenhagen (Easyjet, SAS)
Stockholm (SAS)
Tallinn (Ryanair)
Riga (Ryanair)
Keflavik (for Rekyavik) (Icelandair, Easyjet)
Washington (United)
Sofia (Easyjet, BH airlines)
Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific)
Doha (Qatar Airways)
Beijing (Hainan)
Abu Dhabi (Etihad)
Aruba (Thomson)
Mauritius (Thomson)
Singapore (Singapore Airlines)
Marrakech (Easyjet, Thomson)
Bridgetown (Thomson, Thomas Cook, Virgin Atlantic)
St. Lucia (Thomas Cook)
Antigua (Thomas Cook)
Tobago (Thomas Cook)

I make that 40. May have missed some though.

Two to add,

Sal Cape Verde with Thomas Cook and Thomson
Banjul with Thomas Cook

Not sure if Funchal counts, it's the islands capital but owned by Portugal?

That would be 43 if it is.

We lost recently 2 capitals in Moscow and Cairo being dropped.

In terms of potential capitals MAN could realistically achieve:

Bucharest with TAROM
Vagar with Atlantic Airways (Have previously run charters)
Belgrade with Air Serbia (Etihad partner and have mooted MAN in the past)
Villinus with Ryanair
Pristina with Germania or Easyjet (Germania has been rumoured in the past)
Ankara with Turkish Airlines (rumoured)
Bangkok with Thomas Cook
Kuala Lumpur with Thomas Cook or Air Asia X (has been served by Malaysian in the past)
Delhi with Air India (rumoured many times and previously served)
Tokyo with JAL (they keep sniffing).

I also wouldn't put it past Egyptair to return in the next few years, as well as Tunisair to Tunis. Once Libya settles down, which it will eventually, Tripoli will likely return too, at one point was one of the highest yielding routes from the UK to Africa.

Other remote chances are Amman (served in the past, Baku and a return to Moscow once the dust settles (spats with Russia go in cycles).

Other than that, I don't see any South American capitals being served in my lifetime if I'm being honest, the most I could hope for is Rio. Africa maybe, and, in terms of Far East Asia, apart from what I've mentioned, I don't see any other points being added barring a miracle happening.

Didn't realise Malaysian server KL from MAN - did that stop recently? That would be a good one to get back from someone.

I think Rio could happen.

I would think that Johannesburg would have been on your likely list? South Africa is a market I am surprised is unserved directly.

I think the Indian routes will be announced in 2016 to start 2017.

Yes Malaysian served MAN around 2005-ish if I remember correctly. Used to be a 4 weekly B747-400.

In terms of Jo'burg, I'd have thought Cape Town would be more likely, and, certainly in the next 5-10 years, I don't think 2 South African routes would be sustainable.

Again, Cape Town was served in the past by South African, and a short lived attempt by a company called AV8. Globe span also announced MAN-CPT but I don't think it ever actually ran.

Sorry.

I get mixed up due to The Hague being the seat of government. Holland is a strange country in that it technically has a split capital.

Don't be.

I also was going to add that you'd missed Tel Aviv off your list but upon checking I found out Jerusalem is in fact the capital of Israel. I always thought it was Tel Aviv!!

It's a shame (and tragedy) that Malaysian are in no fit state to open up this route again. I would have thought KL would be a very popular one. I assume is was cut around the time of the recession? I did that route from MAN not so long ago (Etihad) and it was about as long a journey as to Sydney. Certainly ripe for improvement.

Question: of the capital (or shall we say Major?) cities you think might be served, how many do you think will be via flag carriers/major airlines of those nations and which do you feel would need to be via a British carrier? (Which I suppose would be Tompson or Thomas Cook - unless BA or VS change their business model).

I think I agree that two SA routes would be tough, but there must be a major demand for them from the wider MAN catchment area...

Manchester airport is holding a jobs fair tomorrow at the Runway Visitor Park, WA15 8XQ if anybody is interested.

Manchester won airport of the year UK at last nights travel globe awards.

No idea how the award is decided, but, this is the 2nd year in a row it has won.

I'm going to guess it won't win next year once the building work starts!

Some info on December 2015 CAA stats (credit to Gavin C - I have added SQ)

Year End Provisional
provisional data is out for the calendar year from CAA.

http://www.caa.co.uk/Data-and-analys...-data-2015-12/

MAN up 5.3% in month taking the total for the year to 23,096,829 which is an increase of 5.2% year on year.
LGW have broken the 40 million barrier with just one runway showing us what can be done! Stansted data is still missing.

MEB3 (and Turkish / CX / SQ) from MAN in Month:
EK - 79,859 - up 13%
EY - 38,428 - up 16%
QR - 30,365 - up 48%
TR - 21,458 - up 21%
CX - 10,659 - up 41%
SQ - 9,331 - down 13%

The difference between SQ and CX is stark. In very broad terms I make SQ at around 150 per movement (excluding MAN-MUC traffic on SQ) whereas CX is around 300. This is a huge difference.

I don't think there is a major difference between Hong Kong and Singapore (either as a destination or terminal) and SQ and CX are similar airlines in quality and pricing. I think it shows the difference between a non-stop and stopping flights. Either way, SQ have some catching up to do on the route.

Re Norwegian

A user on here refereced Norwegian the other day suggesting a booking Manchester Boston suggests flights start in April.

I'm sure something similar happened last year with a another route, this was swiftly denied by Norwegian when I emailed them, infact it was dismissed within an hour,

Having sent a sreen grab of the Dummy Booking to them I expected a swift rebuttal, that was 3 days ago and
the message STILL appears ?

2 Qs

Do they have 737s that can just about do Man Boston now ?

and is it possible they are posting dummy slots eg Hourly Alborg where the destination City can be swapped last minute so as not to alert competitors ?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
