.....bit PIA cannot fly from anywhere for some time.

KJAY 786 - whilst admiring your enthusiasm for Birmingham I think that you're being rather optimistic with some of the airlines on your "wishlist" .

Getting crews with genuine licences would help remove the current ban but it is the endemic dishonesty that is holding PIA back not the undoubted demand for flights. Pakistan, the State, knows what needs to be done, the sooner the better for all concerned.

Hopefully we should see few flights.

Last day to submit pre-qualification documents is September 25, 2020.

Pre-qualification of charter operators

In order to meet its requirements for charter operations on European and UK routes, PIA intends to pre-qualify experienced charter operators having European Union (EU)/European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) cleared wide-body aircraft with following mandatory requirements:

Seating configuration: 250 plus (in two-class)
Vintage: 2008 onward
Availability: Immediate till March 2021
IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification: Required

Pre-qualification status will be awarded for period till March 2021. During this period, PIA will invite commercial offers only from the pre-qualified operators as and when the need for charter arises.

Good grief you dont want much do you? Neither BA or VS will serve BHX so forget about them. BA left BHX of their own accord without a second glance so good riddance. They made a commercial decision to become London Airways so they can live with their decision. As for VS they dont need BHX as they have both north and south covered comfortably, also when the current financial status of either Airline comes to mind I dont think either of them would be prepared to open a new base.

As for the other Airlines mentioned, I think you need to step back and look at the current situation. Gulf Traveler were looking at BHX prior to Emirates starting. They looked at operating 767 flights but then pulled the plan at the .ast minute. None of the others mentioned have (as far as I am aware) shown tbe slightest interest in BHX even during the good times pre corona. What makes you think they would come now? The priority for BHX is to ensure that our current Airlines come back and to try and recoup the old schedules as much as possible. Yes it would be fantastic if half a dozen Airlines came to BHX wanting to start new services but practicality has to come to the fore. If BHX comes out of Corona with the majority of existing Airlines then we should count this as a win. Airports around the world are being decimated by Airlines pulling away from them.

As an industry Aviation is in a very precarious position at the moment. Consolidation is needed to ensure survival not expansion for the sake of it.

Exactly CL44, BHX has lost three important players over the last three years in Monarch, Thomas Cook and Flybe along with others like CSA and Blue Air not to mention services to New York and Canada etc.

The absolute priority is to try and ensure the return of airlines to the routes suspended due to conavirus and hopefully encourage Easyjet to further expand our much depleted European network along with hopefully continued expansion by Jet2 and not waste time on fantasy routes.

The return of Emirates next week (hopefully) is the first step on long haul returning.

Blue Air are back !
EK first loads next week look good !

Gulf Air Customer Service in Bahrain said that they went to Dublin to serve Bahrain by accident and that manager in charge was removed and Birmingham is a destination they are reviewing. So in the future when Gulf Air purchase new aircraft Birmingham will be reviewed. I also spoke with Egypt Air and MEA on telephone say a high percentage of Midland Passengers use London Heathrow in the future as Birmingham expands and they review passenger needs they might fly Birmingham. I spoke to a lady at Kuwait Airways London she said laughing we know Birmingham Inshallah that is a destination we will support in the future. So in the future we could be on a expanding map but for now it stands we have Emirates and Qatar back in the Winter. I would like to see USA and Canada flights from Birmingham UK as well let see what happens. Overall enjoy the Bank Holiday Every One. ( I forgot i spoke to PIA Karachi Head office they said " Birmingham will be served and could be more destinations as-well when they return to UK in the future - overall they know that Virgin Atlantic is a large threat and they will definently be proud to serve Birmingham well - well done PIA we wait the return of PIA in Birmingham and maybe others could do the route as-well there are many airlines in Pakistan like Air Sial with New A330 lets see - enjoy Bank Holiday Break every one and the sun is shining wow. enjoy)

Gulf Air Traveller announced flights to Birmingham on a 767 some time in the 2000's, soon after Emirates started their second daily flight and no more was heard from Gulf Air.

Out of interest is Paul Kehoe still there?

I love the optimism and hopefully in a couple of years we'll once again start talking about potential new services. At the moment though I think just keeping what we had may be difficult enough, as CL44 pointed out above, returning long haul to 2019 levels should be counted as success.

Getting back to PIA it seems as if they may be set to appeal against the 6 month ban.

As mentioned in message 164 in this thread, until PIA have dealt with the reasons for the ban, an appeal will fail even if an appeal is heard or allowed. Evidence of good standing is at the very least necessary as I suspect a period of exemplary operations will be demanded as a minimum.

This is sad demand is high for Pakistan Flights - Birmingham International Airport - should attract new airlines to serve Pakistan and beyond we do have a beautiful airport and Pakistani Community will argue with PIA even more now. Lets hope Qatar come back BHX.

I agree. Quite surprised by this one, hopefully they return in future.

PIA are banned from the UK !
They are, but at Manchester and Heathrow they are using other airlines planes to operate flights on their behalf. Wouldn’t stop them from doing flights completely, just would have to use another company instead.

Which would be very costly even without a pandemic suppressing demand for travel.

Hopefully if/when PIA is allowed to fly to the UK again they look at returning to BHX.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
