Is that probably the reason behind offering a train ticket? Just seems strange not to offer Cardiff passengers the same
I suppose to an extent so they maintain some sort of option for customers from Birmingham and I suppose some passengers would be willing to travel for Qatar. But let's face it, the service didn't have the highest load factor from BHX so I think most passengers will just go via other hubs. I think Emirates will be a large beneficiary of their exit. I suppose it leaves the door ajar for a return in the future, when demand picks up.

With Australia not looking likely to open their borders until next year it's hardly a surprise.

May be hopeless optimism, but are the rail and coach connections indicative of Qatar planning on returning in the future? The CEO did say they would serve all pre-Covid markets again in the future.

It's been said many times on here that Qatar's load factors aren't great across any of their UK destinations, so its not like BHX is alone in that regards.

Fair and valid point I did not mean to sound like BHX is alone with having a low load factor for QR but I suppose it can only drop to such a level to remain a sustainable route especially in these tough times. I do hope in the future they return.

I contacted Qatar Air about resuming Birmingham flights this is their correspondence: I do hope they realise how important Qatar are to Birmingham economical interest.

According to this tweet Qatar have applied for new slots at Birmingham. It’s possible they could relaunch in March 2022. So I wouldn’t rule out Qatar returning in future. One to keep an eye on. Source: Hello_BHX on Twitter.

Sorry but I am confused, why do they mention only 2 slots have been applied and a possible March 2022 start date ? Why would they only apply for 2 slots, does that mean when/if they do come back it will only be x 2 weekly to start with ?

Yes I believe so but that doesn’t mean it will be 2x weekly. It might be to start off with as things pick up but further down the line they may wish to operate more frequently as things improve. But none the less if they do return to BHX it’s a start and better than not having them at all.

It is because the S22 season probably starts on 31.03.22, so only 2 slots needed in W21/22 !!

Traditionally airline schedules run from end March to end October for Summer. Then Winter is end October to end March. So don't forget, UK arrivals and departures will be one hour earlier from tomorrow....

Pre-pandemic, passenger numbers did not warrant QR's A380. For BHX, it was usually B787 with A350 was occasional visitor. With the ongoing "spat", resumption will be 787.

However, "never say never" a very apt saying for the aviation world!

I thought the A350 was a one off to celebrate an anniversary. I don’t believe it was an occasional visitor other than that but always happy to be corrected.

Edit: hmm, there were a couple of half term flights maybe??

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
