Interesting interview with Air India CEO about their ongoing rebirth and expansion....

Good to see expansion of the UK market and BHX mentioned....

“We are only scratching the surface, really, of the opportunity that is present between the two countries, because at the moment, we only connect Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore with Heathrow. We have a number of services into Gatwick from secondary cities, but you could probably double the number of city pairs that we operate. And that’s before you really consider the likes of Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Manchester, more into Birmingham. There’s really a huge opportunity that we want to be able to attack and the constraining factor is access to aircraft.”

If as part of they their plan they are wanting to turn Air India into a global connecting hub, then they will need to increase frequency into DEL. Hopefully increasing BHX-DEL to 5x weekly or daily is not in the too distant future....
Istanbul, Dubai,Doha are the airports helping with numbers bulge up from Indian connections

Well todays Delhi flight has departed Delhi and is flying south east to the indian ocean in order to avoid Pakistan airspace... will likely add a few hours to the journey

Yes no surprise exactly what they have done before when India and Pakistan lock horns.

Hearing reports Air India could suspend flights to and from ATQ-LGW/BHX while a ban on Pakistan airspace has been imposed
Nope, however since the airspace closure is in place , it will only cost more and make the flight time stretch to 10-12 hours now. Whoever said it’s going to be suspended clearly hasn’t got a clue

Still, it’s not great and one hopes it isn’t prolonged.

If it becomes much more expensive to fly this route then passengers won’t have many other options.

I looked at other options just now and the next best one (Qatar) is about 5 hours longer and at least 2 times the price.

Air India has tweaked the timetables for its flights. AI117 arrival is now 20:45, and AI113 is now 19:05. This is due to a increase of journey time

Following the resent tension on the India and Pakistan borders, it seems this has had an impact on loads... with AI now pausing their BHX-ATQ Tuesday flights for the summer. Tuesday Flight is bookable from the 2nd Sept...

Until then we sit at 3x weekly BHX-DEL / 3x weekly BHX-ATQ

I couldnt think of a worse time to launch a UK-India new route !

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
